Yes that's what it is. I let firehawk paint these. I've got him painting the ones on my topgun as well. Take yours to him I think he's starting to like this crap. I guess he liked them enough to buy the boat from me.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but...
I have painted my lower unit now twice with Imron, primed with epoxy primer, & I run it one time & it looks like someone took a pressure washer to it. The Imron just blows right off...It doesn't make sense, we use Imron at work on the outrives of Navy boats all the time, & have never had this happen.
So, I was thinking about trying base coat system. I just happen to have some silver pearl left over from my dash. Have you run your boat with it painted like that?

BTW...Drives look awsome

I have done several drives and have not had a problem with the paint coming off one yet. Prep prep prep is the key. We ran this one last weekend and they look the same as they did before it hit the water. Firehawk just wanted to try the base clear because we usually just single stage them.

Single stage would be best if you are leaving it in the water. My brother did some drives that sat in salt water for two years so far and they still look very good except for were the barnicals and such grabbed on to them. I was amazed. IMO you do not want or need to use stripper to clean off the drives. They sand off easy enough and then you do not have to worry about stripper still being hidden in the cracks and ports of the drive. Allum. is also very porus so it is hard to get the crap off the metal.
