Glassn' on a scoop?!
4 Attachment(s)
Ok Ive decided to add a scoop to the engine hatch and the fiberglassing part of it Im comfortable with. What I am questioning is instead of going back with traditional cushion and vinyl can I just glass over the entire hatch? The depth of the hatch is like 2" so Im guessing I would have to add plywood and then the glass over that but will it be strong enough to hold weight of Oh I dont know.... lets say several females dancing to there favorite song on the radio?
[Disclaimer: no fat chicks dancing and pay no attention to the numbers written on the hatch] |
That's not a problem to make it strong enough. You are going to need to add 2 to 3 layers to the scoop itself to strenghen it as well. I just got done with this project and learned alot as we went.

The hatch I have now is in great shape so starting from scratch would really be shooting myself in the foot. Dave where do you find the foam? I agree plywood would add a bit of weight but I was just thinking strengthwise what would be best.

Why not just glass in the scoop, then modify your existing vinyl into two pieces to fit on either side of the scoop? Should be enough material in the middle due to the scoop and will probably be about the best option.
I would have said to build an entire new hatch as well and leaev your current one alone so you could return to stock look, but it looks like you already notched it for your scoop... |
