Whats the latest and greatest compound?
 

I need to do some buffing on the new boat and get some color back..

Ive used aqua buff and leverage with, what seemed like, equal results...

Is there anything new on the market that might be a better alternative or are those still the standard for the amateur..

3M Finesse-It II. If it is slightly oxidized or you need more cut then start out with 3M Fine followed by Finesse.

Im gonna need something pretty harsh.. How is the 3m Fine applied? Is it harsher than leverage?

Im trying to avoid the wetsanding route because its in the tunnel and my shoulders are already raising hell about this idea.

either Totally Buff (finer) or Vibra Cut from http://fountainofyouthrestore.com/Fo...outh_Home.html I have found the Totally Buff to be aggressive enough for most stuff plus it is basically self cleaning in the pad. I have gone through two or three boats without spuring the pad once. I like that feature. Been in this biz for many years and this stuff really impresses me.

Vibra cut is some pretty heavy duty stuff. I like these products because they are white and clean up is easier.

Even on a black hull? I meant to mention that earlier. I have spots on the tips of the sponsons that are exposed to sunlight that are basically gray/white now but it still feels smooth. Not chalky like most oxidation..

i would still use it on black. Its off color compounds that stain white gel that you want to be careful of. I would get a pint of Vibra and a quart of Totally and have at it. Finish it up with Quick Shine :cool:

I've been a fan of Aqua Buff for years but I'm willing to try the Fountain of Youth product too. Curious how they will compare.

Sorry, didn't know it was that bad. Finesse is a finishing compound so it will not have enough cut to it.

I used 3m imperial compound-finishing. I read there specs, it starts out at about an 800 grit then with buffing transitions to a finishing compound. High, but worth it. You can feel it grabbing, cutting and then all of sudden it goes dry and polishes out pretty slick. Some go back over it with finesse, but I just waxed and I'm really happy.
