priming epoxy repair
 

hello all. i'm restoring a 77 pantera and i've glassed in the transom for a bravo conversion. i used west systems epoxy system and have the area faired out now.

my question is this: can i use a 2k type primer surfacer on the epoxy and then use duratec ve on top of that? my thoughts are that the 2k primer will seal the epoxy from the duratec ve.

should i use an epoxy primer to seal the repair and then use the duratec instead?

i'm trying to get the transom as flat as humanly possible and i've been blocking it with a 30 inch block and 80 grit. it's pretty flat as far as i can tell but i want to use the duratec as a surfacer.

I tried sealing epoxy for use with VE and never had any results i felt comfortable with. These days i finish sand any epoxy work to a very high level on up through Adtechs Ultra fair and Final Fair. At that point there really is no need for further straightening beyond a good couple coats of 2k primer to fill in 180 marks for sealer and paint. If you need further straightening you should be able to take Ultra Fair to a level that only needs primer and not VE. Final Fair if great to for a good alternative to VE but it takes forever to cure.

here, i use 861 for general fairing and 865 for fine stuff. It says its sprayable but i have no idea what you'd spray it through. Its thick enough to apply fine passes with a yellow spreader but again he 65 seems to take forever to cure, I rarely use it as the 861 goes fine enough.
