lifting boat off the trailer for paint
Im wanting to paint the bottom of my old scarab its 28ft. long single engine and Im not really sure how to support the boat in order for me to pull the trailer out from under it any help will be greatly appr. :coolcowboy:

The main thing is you support the keel and then block up the outside so it don't roll over. I've never done one that big so I will let others give you better advice. One thing you may want to consider is taking it to a marina and have them do it unless you already have the stuff to do it.

The "redneck" method:
Jack up the boat a few inches above the trailer one spot at a time. Place your support blocks as close to the trailer crossmembers as possible. Do this to four or five spots along the length of the boat. Pull the trailer forward until you come close to the next crossmember. Grab more blocking material to "re-block" the boat, again as close to the crossmember as possible. Remove the original blocks, repeat. Not sure if this is clear, but you are "walking" the trailer out from under the boat. After your first "step," block the transom well so it will be stable. It's a bit cumbersome and time consuming, but it works. |
