Default How to prep engine for paint?

I have recently bought a used gray 330 hp engine to place in my project boat but want to make it look good first. I have the engine sitting on a rotating engine stand right now without the exhaust manifolds but complete otherwise.

The engine was a salt water engine so the paint is flaking and greasy, my question is how do I clean this while it is on the engine stand.

I am afraid to degrease and power spray because of the open ports.
