Best way of removing bottom paint

Not sure if its the best way but I used aqua strip to take mine off. it worked Better than I expected but still a lot of work. Here's a few picts. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/f...-thousand.html

The real question is, how much do you want to spend and do you want to do it yourself? A boat that size would be around $1000 to blast depending on how many layers, if theres a barrier coat, etc just fyi.

First off, are you wanting the botom paint totally removed for good, or are you wanting to repaint? I would buy a can of Easy Off oven cleaner and do a test spot, if there is bare gelcoat underneath then its not barrier coated. I just finished soda blasting my 33 Donzi with full intentions of buffing out the bottom and completely doing away with bottom paint, well............ My boat was barrier coated(epoxy primed), half ass sprayed on in some spots, rolled on a quarter inch thick in others, and in some spots no epoxy at all. The more I started sanding on the epoxy the more and more places I found where some idiot had burnt clear through the gelcoat with a DA at some point. Pretty much all along the strakes and chines were DA scared. At that point I had the option to either re gelcoat the entire bottom, or just re bottom paint. I'm re painting.
Even if your boat was'nt barrier coated, soda blasting will leave the equivelant of an 80 grit sanded finish that will need heavily sanded and buffed to make it shine again. If you go that route, pray that your gelcoat is thick enough.

Yeah, you never know what you're going to find under the paint. I did a 30 something foot Searay the other day that had a 8' x 2' patch on one of the strakes. For some reason the previous owner didnt disclose that when the boat was sold. There are ways to prevent leaving an 80 grit finish, but it is not cheap to do. We'll tell someone the price and they'll quickly change their mind and repaint.

Also heard some people using deck strippers and I do not mean the ones wearing thongs but you never know they might work also but could get very expensive.
