Baja Cuddy Bilge Pump Redo

I'm in the middle of a project with the cuddy bilge pump on my 232. The Original cuddy bilge pump (under the cuddy step) went bad.
1 - I removed the pump to find it was screwed through a thin layer of fiberglass to a 3/4" thick piece of plywood attached to the bottom of the hull.
2- The screw holes looked dark and rotten so I started the process of cutting away the thin fiberglass layer over the wood.
3- I decided to remove the piece of wood with the intention of replacing it with plastic.
4- Possibly putting a thin layer of glass over the plastic.
5- Screw the new pump through the fiberglass and new plastic just as the old had been installed.

Is there any reason instead of the plan above, I couldn't marine epoxy the pump base right to the fiberglass hull bottom? Skipping the plastic and fiberglass work.

You can epoxy it right to the hull if you like, or you can go with the plastic to the hull idea.

I used 4200 to glue a small bilge pump to the hull in my engine room to get the residual water that ends up back by the drain plug. Been three years now and so far so good iit hasn't come loose.
