Spider crack repair
 

What would be a cost to repair sider cracks in gel coat per spot. Rough number on the high side. And does this type of repair last or will the cracks come back.

I have no idea on cost, as its something I've done myself in the past and decided its not worth the effort. They always come. I've got a little 26'er getting beat up in lake michigan non stop. Ive learned to live with them and the fact the boat will never be 100% or even 90% perfect if it's being used regularly.

Figure on at least $100/linear inch just for gelcoat; not including paint.

Agree with the above comments. Have seen this repaired, then they come back. Was actually told by a VERY reputable Marine Suveyor that those spider cracks are actually due to extra thick area of gel (often in an area where several angles come together) and is a flex or pressure point for the boat. Agree, not worth the effort, the possible gel mismatch, or the $$$.

Thick gel in the corners is a big contributing factor, in the build process it seems workers like to pile it in on those areas. There are several things that can cause them

thick gel in certain areas
squared and sharp corners and openings. You'll notice on newer boats the deck openings and features have larger radius's
deck flex, this is a design error. not much you can do about it without adding support underneath
over catylized gel
Kevlar boats are notoriously floppy and stress like crazy (old ones anyways)



I've had pretty good luck keeping them down but they can return, some boats its just designed into.

The boat they would be on is a powerplay. How is there glass and structure.
