Clear over plished alunimum?
Anybody put clear over their polished Aluminum parts, valve covers, intake and such.
Did it dull the shine or turn color with the heat? Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays. |
One company makes clear that sticks to any polished metal including chrome. Its a bit tricky to use can be brushed , rolled or sprayed. Only thing is if it gets to thick / puddles anywhere it gets gas bubbles in it from its drying. Its very shiny handles about 400* and is self leveling. Have used it on engine parts, bumpers, as a primer, polished wheels on my motorcycle. Have tried other top end automotive clears that PPG makes eventually it comes off all but painted surfaces. Rattle cans of clear will peal and turn yellow eventually

On polished aluminum we use alumiclear on polished semi wheels, tanks and trailers. works great

I did not know about either of these products, looks like the Diamond product is best for heat. If I go this way I will most likely spray it. Anybody else have any good results, I hate polishing that beautiful polished aluminum.

Just use an adhesion promoter and any quality automotive clear. I did adhesion promoter, metal flakes then a bunch of coats of clear to cover the flakes. When I decided to strip and change colors I had a hell of a time removing everything.

No, but I had a tunnel ram powder coated in chrome which was then powdered over with clear. Came out nice, and looks kinda like polished aluminum. Cheaper and less maintenance than polished aluminum for sure!

Anyone tried Shark Hide? http://www.sharkhide.com/ I've seen it advertised, looks interesting...may I'll try it next summer

I use Sharkhide and it works fairly well. It does dull down the shine a bit though. I still end up polishing and recoating every year just to keep the shine up. Much better than nothing as it tarnishes after one time out without it .Easy to apply. Just pour on a clean cloth and wipe on. Would love to know if there is something better.

I have a can of AlumaClear on the way. I'll let you know how it works for me.
Anybody else try this on their Intake manifold/valve covers? |
