Agree with the suggestions above . Definitely epoxy resin , sometimes you don't have to thicken it because of the tolerances of the existing hole. Besides using toothpicks with good results in the past I've done larger holes , like for a #14 self tapping screw , where I've plugged the hole with a cut off (wooden) golf tee and epoxy resin.
After everything is set up and ready to go the screw goes back in like a virgin hole . .

Very easy way to get by if needed is cut a piece of zip tie and put it in the hole, then add your screw. I've used this method on many things and never once has any of the screws came loose. I prefer to fill and redrill later on just because I'm ocd on things like that.

Depending on size I usually drill out to the nearest size wooden dowel. Mix up some resin of choice, cut to length and glue them in. Cut flush, sand, fill, prime and paint or gel.

Depending on size I usually drill out to the nearest size wooden dowel. Mix up some resin of choice, cut to length and glue them in. Cut flush, sand, fill, prime and paint or gel.
