COLOSSUS! All I wanted was a seat.

A round of filler tinted black and some 80 grit

4 layers of 1/4 fine line to get the cut line /seam. No way to skin these in 1 piece without 2 helpers who have long enough attention span to hold and not wrinkle the material

Dont use spray glue in the house, even a light dusting goes all over ! Oops !
and 2 chairs from the dining room hold the seat upside down pretty good.

Take it outside to spray the glue and mask the cut line so the material doesnt stick past the tape for a cleaner cut.

Heres the cut/seam in better light.

Seams between the 2 pieces get pinstripes outta tinted resin same way the surfboard guys do it and that glass tracer is great for alignment and it's cheaper by a lot, it disappears when wet out.

Don't mask off thinking it will make less mess, it only screws up the nice cut line you started with. Sorry buddy, your seats gonna have a little wider pinstripe back there.

Instead, don't tape it and just go for it, less mess with near perfect seam.

I was told this resin is the way to go but my opinion theres gotta be a better option. Silmar 249 surfboard resin, dries clear and is uv but only the youtube stars can sand it with high grits to polish.

It has a 5 minute pot life, super thin, and only the youtube stars apply it perfectly flat and smooth like a mirror.

Theres this fog that i think is the surfacing wax which i was told it needed, a few pages back the silmar 249 was sprayed on the orange/black seat w/ the celtic cross and it had the same fog, thought at the time it was a dirty compressor.

When mine get skinned, gonna use the vinyl ester

See the fog, at least spraying layed it down nice but it wouldnt sand out. I suck at sanding.
this whole project was a guess, shot in the dark, hack and try again. I throttled the sarcasm way back and swear words out.
it seves as my notes and a reminder not to waste the time and money again on hi finish stuff i'm not capable of.

Looking good....that "fog" your have in post 34 looks like micro bubbles in the surface of the resin and a 5min working time is just crazy! get some slower setting resin and you can take a torch and pass a flame over the resin after you have laid it down to try and get all the bubbles to pop and smooth out....either that or don't be super aggressive mixing it and adding air to the mix, or you can even try and put the resin under a vacuum to get all the air out of the mix.
When i play with fiberglass i usually mix the MEKP on the lower side. They usually want you to mix between 1-2%...i try and stay on the 1% side to give myself a longer work time....also it sometimes helps to chill the resin in the fridge to keep it cooler longer to prevent the kickoff. And i also mix it in two containers.....first one is the initial blending of the two components and quick mix...then i pour it all into a second container and mix again. I fell like you will never get all the raw resin mixed properly that sits on the sides of the container and in the corners of the bottom so i pour it out to the second cup and mix some more....never had a problem that way....had plenty of problems with parts no kicking off just using one cup method

I think your right about the micro bubbles, that resin was sprayed. I mix pretty hard, consistant and have a ritual.
supplier says mix ve and the surfboard resin for 2 minutes, so i do and the waste always pops right out to re use the cups a couple times. Always 1 percent, always hot down here.

Both seats get a stencil, the rounded hump at shoulders seat gets this one.

can't remember if this carbon kevlar trims with a razor blade, i really hope so !

Pete5, there used to be this stuff fiberglast development had called "chromaveil" some kind of very lightweight weave like 2x2 twill that was digitally printed/dyed or something. There were several designs like wood, tile and the best was blueish with water drops that were 3d in appearance, it looked like the paint job on ben perfected almost kinda. ( the diet pepsi can). Be great if if it caught on and you get anything printed, a couple flag seats and matching patio table would be awesome. Think it's still around but in camo.

The pizza cutter (rotary razor blade thingy) from us composites cut this. Looks like 1/8 inch pinstripes will cover, well thats how i'm taping it for.
