353 Silent Thunder box

So I've gone to Corsa's on my boat...and have the silent thunder box lying on the shop floor. I have no foreseeable interest in putting it back on my boat.

I'd like to sell it, reasonable, to someone maybe who's box is missing from a used boat, that aren't satisfying the authorities in their area for noise, or who has a cracked or damaged one and needs a replacement.

with the crackdown on exhaust noise going on everywhere, and knowing how previously (since '98) many were removed, there must be someone who could use one.

no splits or cracks, and the gel is nice. It has the reliefs for the higher X dimension...it's off an '02 with 90 hours, and has the oval outlets.

I'll crate it, or meet someone halfway in the northeast or Ohio.

I can't imagine what Formula gets for one.

anybody else having trouble with the site this morning?

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

I'd be happy just to get what I've got into the muffs + shipping if that's the case.

I think that's reasonable enough to someone who needs one. ;)

Garage floor: best place for them....:D :D

I'd like to sell mine to someone who could use it. Let it go cheap. Very good shape. Bolt on model off an 89' 311.

Congratulations,
Post a picture of your boat without it....:drink:

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

I left the cones out of the muffs, and removed the turbolators under the risers. I had 'em off to greatly simplify the muffler install. All went well. :)

easy enough to put the cones in anytime with the muffs on the boat. Doubt I'll need 'em though...you've got to be wide open and ratty to get hassled here.

So Senator,
What are you "putting in"? Maybe a new 353? Maybe a new 382? Or maybe an old 303? :D

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

There were a couple hurdles. That damn 5200 took torch heat on the flanges to get loose without taking gelcoat. Just a tad too much tho as the heat browned the gel just a little in some areas. Fortunately the Corsa's cans are bigger enough in dia than the original flanges, they covered it. ;)

The bolt pattern was the same...but the circle was about 1" bigger overall for the Corsa studs. I used a bit to clean all the 5200 out of the original screw holes, and dipped some 3/16" hardwood dowel in resin and drove 'em into the holes. Then through drilled the next day just outside of them for the Corsa studs. I used 4200 for sealant, and neoprene o-rings on the studs. :D Big thick s/s fender washers and nyloc nuts on the inside. Turned out real nice!

Another issue was the outside stud (10 o'clock outside port, and 2 o'clock outside starboard) ran into the 1" thick starboard that is on the inside of the transom as part of the bimini rack. That starboard had to be clearanced down to the transom with a 1 1/4" wood bit, once I drilled thru with a small bit from the outside to find hole center.

Like I said in another post...these boat projects are always more involved in execution than they seem in the planning.

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

Question me this...Where would you have a picture of that boat on a red trailer? Hmmm...the plot thickens.

Rippem 05-26-2005 10:17 PM

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

answer me this, am I wrong? That boat is the most likely candidate...based on alot of things...

You had the guys cell#, he was e-mailing or calling YOU the last we spoke...correct?

That was the boat from Virginia that the fella with "too many boats" had on the red trailer, and for sale again.

Good thing I'm at work...
Otherwise, I wouldn't play this game of "hide and seek" with you. :evilb: :D

axapowell 05-26-2005 10:18 PM

Re: 353 Silent Thunder box

Nope...not Virginia..next?
