353 with boxes
Has anybody tried turning the props in on a 353 w/boxes and 525 efi's? If so, what was the speed increase? What is the down side?
Please advise. Thank you in advance |
Re: 353 with boxes
We tried inward rotation on a 353 w/ boxes and 525's a couple of years ago. We left it that way because, in general, inward rotation will carry the bow a little better. We also went away from the factory-installed five-blade props, which generated WAY too much stern lift, and wound up using Hydromotive four-blade props. Best we saw was 90.6 MPH on the GPS when we got done with all of the fine-tuning.
The down side to inward rotation is the low speed handling around the dock will not be as good, and the high speed handling can get a little tricky. Hard to tell if that is because of the inward rotation, or the 90 MPH speeds. We saw a 1 or 2 MPH increase with the inward rotation, but I can't promise that every boat will offer the same result. Inward rotation with one set of props might work better, but then work poorly with a different set of props. Tom Total Marine |
