Another Engine Hatch Problem - Solved !!!
I got my hatch lift working again. After checking all the wires and determining that there was power to the lift I took it out to inspect it.
Since it was dead anyway I took apart the electric motor and - low and behold - there is a little thermal protection circuit with a bimetalic spring that had fallen apart. I got out my soldering iron, bypassed the circuit and WHOO-HOO I'm back in business. There is a circuit breaker under the dash for the lift so I'm sure I'm okay without the internal one. The lift is really a linear actuator designed by Warner Electric for industrial applications. The original purpose of the lift was for factory usage with a heavy duty cycle and the motor might overheat so they put in the internal protection circuit. Since opening and closing the hatch a couple times a day isn't really a heavy duty cycle it'll be okay. $250.00 dollars saved to give to the gas dock. |
