Woohooo! New formula owner!

I am so damn excited i could just wet myself. I just bought an 84 272 LS with 538 hours on it. runs great looks decent and was a screamin deal. I have been lurking on this thread for some time and decided I wanted a vintage formula after reading all the good stuff you guys threw down in here. So Hi everyone and thanks for all the information so far.

Now a couple questions I hope you all can help me with. what are the quirks or little tricks to this particular model? Anything I should plan on upgrading or replacing right away? It already has a couple thing done it has a set of chopper props and edlebrock carbs. through transom exhaust (loud and throaty). I would like to upgrade the interior and gage's first. the first thing i noticed is the rubber matting thats on the dash area its cracked and coming up in a couple area's. What have you all done with this area if at all?

thanks again everyone

oh and I already know cuda hates Bimini's lol!

pardon me here is a pic, I am not a fan of the colors but they will get me through the summer and become a winter project.

Congrats man, nice old bird. Don't know much about that black matting on your dash, mine doesn't have it.

Cleavers should probably go. There's better props out there today.

It's gotten pretty big and even Cooder drops by often to berate biminis...

Enjoy! I'm "233 Double E" over there...

Congratulations Flat Out. It looks just like my dad's old boat. He traded it with 1500 hours on the original Merc 260s and drives. Great boat! His was an '83. A couple of not so great pics.

Anyone else have a suggestion for props with same set up on an older 272? Especially something proven that worked for you.

Congratulations I love that feeling of taking delivery of your almost new boat!

Re: Woohooo! New formula owner!

I would run the boat for a little bit and get used to the way the boat handles, get some numbers speed, rpms. Also play with your drives and tab settings. Once you feel comfortable with your ride go to the prop section and give them you info and a little $$$$

good luck

My 242 with twin 350's had 23 B1 props that seemed to work well.

I too am a new proud owner of a 1984 Formula 302 SR-1. Powered by twin 502's and 4-blade Intimidators! She will cruise about 60MPH and kick it at 77MPH!!I will post a few pics later!!

The one thing to remember is that your drives are NOT counter rotating like a twin engine Bravo. You can negate most of the tendency to pull to port with cavitation plate zinks with skegs turned slightly starboard. Never let go of the wheel. Check the bottom for hook or rocker, it's there. The 272 flies off waves better than any other boat I have ridden in. It is extremely well balanced.Joe Murray

I too am a new formula owner. Just got a 25 SC Express, 1984 model, in exceptional condition! My wife inherited it from her brother who died recently. He had recently taken off the outdrive to repaint it. Now I am trying to figure out how to put it back on the boat!
