1995 336 review in Powerboat

A page was posted on another site with performance numbers on a 95 336 with 525SC's. I emailed the guy and he sent me the full 4 pages of the review. It showed that they saw 86 mph, which bummed me out that I don't get close to that on mine with HP500's. Then I ran the numbers through a prop speed calculator on Bam's site (go-fast.com). It shows that 5000 rpm, 1.36 gear ratio, 25 pitch props, and 86 MPH gives you a prop slip factor of 1%. At 4500 they showed a speed of 78, which is 0% slip. Does this sound a little fishy to anyone else, or is it just me??

I have that issue! :D
80 MPH is what I remember

is the 86 speedo speed or radar?

86 on speedo, 85.8 on radar.

The boat was on the trailer for these tests. It was 5000 rpm's and 86 on the speedo in the truck. The cop was generous that day so the ticket was only for 80. That's why you guys are confused..... :evilb: :drink:

the boat had to be a "ringer".

if I remember correctly...wasn't one of the Porters gonna keep that boat?

I've got 94 336 with 500 bulldogs in it, 1.36 gears and 24 bravo ones I run 75.1 gps. If I lab them I should get 76-77.
To get 85 you would have to push 600 hp a side.

I think it may have been a typo. Formula has some spec sheets with the 525sc's and they claim a top speed of 76.

How do you like the Bravo 1's and did you have 3 blades before them? Just curious as I have the same setup but a 95 (with the notched transom) and hp500's and run 23" labbed mirages.

bravo's were night and day over the 3 blade mirages. I ran 25 mirage pluses at 4800 to 4900 and had a top speed of 74.7. on GPS

I'm turning the 24 bravo's at 5000.

Also tested a set of 24 bravo's that were a couple of years old. they turned 100 rpm less. I was told that merc is cupping the new ones differently. Brand new ones out of the box turned 100 rpm more.

are you running 1.36 or 1.50 drives.

Could you email me the article from powerboat Iwould like to read it

I do have the 1.36 drives, though Teague always says in Powerboat that you should run 1.50 until you run out of prop, say 32 pitch +.

I can send it tomorrow from work. PM me your email address, I don't think I can attach anything using the email from OSO feature.

Post resurrected

THIS SPRING I BOUGHT THE BOAT IN POWERBOAT MAG ARTICLE

supposedly the first one Fromula did with 525sc's
the only one with boost gages ( although installed in the engine bay by formula just for monitoring)

looking to find tune the 24" bravos for more top end
I am currently at 72mph at 5000 rpm. 1.36 ratio

two questions, ok 3....

1) if mercury labbed them ( for previous owner) did they prolly loose some cupping and do I have some potential for more top end if I tweek them? he complained he did not gain any top end after spending big buck$$.

2) do the 25's work better for the blue motor packages , or were those three blades. can the 525sc's pull more pitch than 24

3) who has the powerboat article, i really want it. or a way to get it. Do they do reprints that far back?

thanks
