1987 bolster repair?
 

A boat I am looking at has the adjustable bolsters but the actuator mechanism on the port seat will not stay fully up. The seats have a single silver button and are supposed to come up when the button is pushed and lock in place when the button is released, they are not electric they have a spring over a cylinder looking thingy that moves the bolster base. Can the cylinder be beld or filled? Are the parts still avalible for the seats? It feels like there is air in the cylinder maybe. Thanks, Chris

I had the same problem. There's not cylinder, it's a spring behind that button. It gets gunked up. If you can get it clean, it should work fine.

I had the same problem and the compay that makes the whole mechanism helped me get replacement button assemblies. Thier primary products are for the aircraft industry--seat recliner mecahnims for airliner seats.

I've also found that you need to watch the springs on the cylinders under the seat--tehy get corroded and bind up. Use something like CorrosionX or Beoshiled on the entire mechanism regularily.

Be careful when you take the button out--it's got some nylon parts on it and a spring if I remember right.

I posted the name of the company that made the mech but can't remember it for the life of me right now.

PL Porter makes the mechanism. I had them rebuild one of my pistons.

Me too. The pass side wouldn't stay up. While sitting on it , it would ever so slowly drop. Every 5 minutes or so you would have to raise it.

Did you have to take the bolster apart to get the cylinder out?:confused::confused::confused:

yes you do, has to come off of the base then you can get to the piston.

Right , once off the base and turned upside down it's a piece of cake :cool:

Thanks for the info guys I have decided to look at some newer 292/311's instead. It is nice to know that unit is serviceable. Chris
