382 with flat panel TV
I would like to install a flat panel TV in my 1998 382 Fastech. The boat was not ordered with a TV. I am looking for some close up pictures of how the factory installs the flat panels.
I will probably never watch it, but the Cigarette boys will be ever more pissed off when I blow by them with my water condo while my wife is watching TV down below. Thanks in advance. Jeff |
Re: 382 with flat panel TV
I installed a flat panel 19" monitor/tv on my 357SR1. I used a flip-up mount but I'm going to change over to a tilt/swivel arm thing. CHeck out www.Tigerdirect.com --they've got great options on montirs and mounts at really good prices.
The monitor I got is a 19" tv (with tuner and built-in speakers) and a computer monitr and it was around $700 a fw years ago--they are cheaper now. It will run in 12v and 120V. Also got a 12v DVD and VCR. Now I think I'd et one of those iPod video's and put movies on that and play them thru the TV. Have fun--lots of really cool options. |

I'm installing a slightly wider TV/DVD in my 2000 382, but here is the factory installation straight from Decatur, IN:

Jeff,
I assume you realize this will slow you down about .435 m.p.h.?!? :D |
Re: 382 with flat panel TV
Thanks for the info. Does anyone know what make and model the TV is ? Has anyone had trouble with this type of TV on a boat like this and does the cabinet support the TV securely ?
Chris, I am sending the props out to be labbed to make up for the extra weight. Jeff |
Re: 382 with flat panel TV
I am also considering replacing the original Kenwood stereo with one that will play mp3's and dvd's and tie it in with the TV. Their are two that caught my eye, Blaupunkt Hollywood dvd35 and Long Beach dvd35. The one concern I have is do they have a remote that can be fix mounted to the dash ?

The factory TV is a Sharp. If you look around, you might be able to figure out which model it is. Formula told me that they have only had to replace one or two so far. I think that they've been putting them in for 3 years now... The factory DVD player is a Blaupunkt. I found a 15" flat TV/DVD on ebay for $305, but won't have it in until the spring. I'll let you know how it lives in a few years.
There are more of these on ebay right now for good prices:15" TV/DVD on Ebay |

Re: 382 with flat panel TV
Check out www.TigerDirect.com -- theyve got a lot of mounting systems for flat panesl--and some great prices an monitors, TV's, and combo Monito/TV units. I put a 19" combo Monitor/TV in my 1986 357 SR1 that even has built in speakers and a wireless remote,

Re: 382 with flat panel TV
Thanks for the info Poorsche and C Spray. The tv is on its way, I bought a 13" Sharp Aquios, the same one Formula uses. Now I just have to do some mods to the cabinet and make a mounting system for it.
Skramer, I could mount that 51 incher to the engine hatch and we could have a drive in at the beach. Jeff |

Re: 382 with flat panel TV
Don't forget to wire in the DVD player while your buidling the compartment. Formula has a small one mounted behind the TV.

I am thinking of replacing the original kenwood stereo with a sony that also plays dvd's, mp3's, and cd-r's. I could connect this to the tv and use the cabin amp and speakers for the tv. The sony I am interested in is the mex-r5 and iI was told it is compatible with the rm-xm10 wired marine remote. The only concern I have is that the sony has 2 volt pre-amp outputs and the kenwood has 4 volt. Will dropping down to 2 volt cause a problem ? |
Re: 382 with flat panel TV
Don't have an answer for that but it sounds like a great idea. One other thing to consider...I have the Sirius radio on mine, and I can't do anything but change channels from the helm. I wish it was set up with the remote Sirius at the helm so I can see the channels. Right now the only place to see it is at the radio below.

Re: 382 with flat panel TV
If I may but in...I would use a separate DVD player. Find a deck that will allow an external input for the audio from the DVD. The reason being, the quality will drop in the audio decks that have DVD players. The voltage drop on the outputs will affect the signal to the external 4 channel amp if you have one. Check out Pioneer they have many high end decks that have audio inputs. They have a new marine remote CD-MR80D. I bought one for next seasons audio upgrade and it's a real nice piece. Let me know what you might need, I have a friend who owns a stereo shop and has helped me a ton.

Hey Kramer
Go back to the cig forum with the rest of your "family" or better yet go back to the baja forum because you suck. Jeff |
Re: 382 with flat panel TV
I've tried the Shakespeare and another onethat look like a flying saucer. They both had amplifier and one was even directional. I'm 40 miles from Orlando and can't get any of the major off the air stations.
I'm about ready to put a satellite antenena on--one apraoch is that one that Audivox makes that fits on luggage rack. It could sit on sunpad or bow when in use and be stowed when not used. I've never had any lucj\k with the off-air antenna's available so make sure you can returen it and that you test it before you make a permanent install. |
