Paging PhantomChaos
Nort,
Do you have any of the extra dash panels left over? I'm ready to fix mine and would like to start from scratch. Thanks, Chris |
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
Yes...I've got some panels. Whatch need?
|
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
I want to replace the main dash panel where the bracket PEM studs broke off the back. I want to lay out the guages in the exact same pattern your factory panel was ... speedo and tachs up, 4 lower right, 4 lower left. I think I can get the holes layed out and cut here if you have a blank with the PEM studs in it already.
Thanks, Chris |

Thanks, Chris Chris I took a look tonight and I have a new panel with the PEMs installed, and NO gauge cut outs at all...painted gloss white. You need the thingy-mo-bob that goes between the studs (from your panel) |

Re: Paging PhantomChaos
Nort,
Just wondering ... what did you do with your GPS? Remount it elsewhere, or just travelling by dead reckoning/celestial navigation (technical words) now? |
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
Normally......I use the round floating thing with numbers all around it. I also have a pocket Garmin in the glove box if it's needed.

Nort,
Do you still have this program for laying out a template? I would like to see what it would look like if I put my GPS on the lower left, then staggered 8 guages to the lower right (as in "B" below). Just tachs and speedo on the top. |

Re: Paging PhantomChaos
Yep ... that's it EXACTLY!
Did you give this layout any consideration? Just trying to accomodate for the size of the 182C and eliminate the asymetry of the factory 8-guage layout. Just looks a little cleaner to me this way. |
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
No I didn't......The "B" in ghe new version I posted is what I ended up with.....so Iv'e got too many guages for the "F" layout.
|
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
Thanks for your help, Nort!
Anybody have opinions or input on the "F" layout? |
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
I think the "F" layout is wicked cool....:drink: :drink:
|
Re: Paging PhantomChaos
I usually prefer a center mounted primary piece (like D) but if you have someone trying to watch the GPS for you the F layout will be better for that. Of course I don't get to drive this thing so my opinion isn't worth much.

The 182C is bigger (taller) than the lower bank on the dash panel and overlaps the horizontal lip. It just looks like it is too big when mounted in the center. The 172C is smaller and fits in this spot better. The newer Fastech models have a flat dash panel making for easier layout symmetry. I know the waters here like the back of my hand, and will generally use GPS for nighttime and unfamiliar waters. With the money I have invested in the engines, I consider the guages more critical than the GPS in most of the boating I do locally. The Factory layout is asymmetric due to the jog in the dashboard which is lower on the left. The "F" layout takes advantage of the larger space on the L for the 182C and also puts the guages closer together, making it easier to do a quick scan of engine vitals when running hard. Hope I like it when it's all said and done. |

You sound like a doctor or something using all these big words like asymmetric and symmetry, we are talking about dash panels not a set of bolt on boobies here. Jeff |

Also, Marilyn just pointed out that you have you old boat picture for your avitar. Jeff |
