382 fastech vs 382 sr1

Merry Christmas everyone! I guess you could call this last minute christmas shopping for me!

So I am pondering between two different boats. A 1996 382 and a 1997 382. I know one is a straight hull and the other is steped. Other than that they are identical boats. both have 500's, no air or gen.

what I am wondering is what is the pro's and con's of each boat. fuel consumption difference, top speed, ride, stability, ect.

The real question is that I can be both boats at a good price but is it worth the extra $15,00 for a fastech?

Thanks
Don

It's worth the extra $15K for the FASTech, IMHO. Performance difference will be significant, figure at least 5 or 6 MPH. When you get into the world of 38' 10,000 lb boats, $15k suddenly doesn't seem like a lot of money for a 5 or 6 MPH gain! I've spent a whole lot more for a whole lot less! Plus, the FASTech will always be a newer boat with newer technology, advantages that will come back to you at resale time.

I love the old SR-1 boats, but if they are both clean and similarly equipped, I just think the price differential should be more than what you are saying.

Good luck, you can't go wrong either way.

Soon the difference will be like having TRS verses Bravo - Go stepped

Get the Fastech. Spend the 15k or beat them down some, tell them you will buy the sr1.

The SR1's are great boats and I have nothing bad to say about them, but once you have had a FasTech you won't look back, unless you want to take a look at the SR1's and the cig's.
