Recent Fixes on the 382
 

I've been snowed under with work lately, although we did make it to Catalina Island last weekend with SCOPE. It was a blast being on the ocean. First time for me ever and for my boat, with me anyways. The boat did great and we had a great time.

Here's some info on my recent fix up adventures that might help someone out someday.

My gas fume detector always had the light on but the alarm didn't sound. Turned out that one of the wires in the 3 wire cable was coming out of the plug. I had to buy a new cable and put it in. Seems to be fixed. :D

My holding tank pump (vacuflush) wouldn't shut off. Turned out that the pressure relief valve was bad. About $100 for the valve and 3 minutes to put it in. George from Seacoast Services http://www.sealandsanitation.com/ fixed me up. He help me diagnose. I ordered the wrong part initially and it was no problem. (I thought I knew what I was doing and I was obviously wrong. :p ) The new relief valve has a piece of foam on top that prevents dirt from getting in the valve which is probably what makes these jobbers go bad to begin with. The tank we have in our boats is a VHT12 by Sealand. The pump pulls a vacuum and won't run again for about an hour at least. It might still have a minor leak somewhere else, but I'm done with this one until I have nothing better to do. :)

I put a red LED on my Ritchie compass. $20. Thanks to the person who mentioned it here. I can't remember who. It looks seriously cool at night. :drink: :drink: :drink: I tried to take a picture but it didn't work since I don't have a camer to pull it off.

Replaced my VHF radio with a Standard Horizon Quest with DSC. Fits where the old Standard Horizon is cause it's the same size. My advice though would be to find the Quest+ that has one additional DSC feature.

I made new ropes for my fenders with cool looking knots. Not that anyone every sees them or gives a rip, but it only took me 8 hours or so to do 4 fenders and get them perfect, so I thought I would mention it. :p :drink:

Replaced the fire extinguishers. BC units like are already there are the best way to go.

Replaced worn out mirror grommets on the engine cover screws.

Filled the cockpit cover snaps with silicone where missing.

Replaced the coil on the starboard engine trying to eliminate the tach bounce. No joy. This one is a pain in the behind. :mad: Someday, it WILL be fixed. :D I found a scuffed spark plug wire, but haven't replaced yet. I just need to get in there and take the thing apart, but I don't want to do it right before a big event, so I keep putting it off.

I think I fixed a very minor power steering leak by tightening down a fitting on one of the steering rams.

Garrett, Those are all good things to know about. Tach bouncing could likley be a bad ground...this is pretty common.

I think that is probably the problem on the tach. I checked everything once in a quick way. Didn't find anything missing. I need to take the dist cap off and pull the ignition module, check the grounds, and everything else. I just need more time. :)

Glad you are enjoying the boat, we sure liked it. I'm going to finaly splash the donzi this weekend for a nice little weekend getaway, so I'm sure we'll find something(s) to fix :rolleyes:

Hey Corey,

All our plans for some local boat time have been shot down due to unforseen circumstances. In another 2 weeks we will have manged to go out of town more with the boat than we have used it here in Phoenix.

Glad your getting on the water. The weather has been great here lately so I'm sure it is good in Texas. :D

We're definitely having boating weather! It was 101* here yesterday, which is a little too warm for my likings, but its better than cold :cool: Glad to hear that the boat is working out for ya'

I thought the head was a place to store the cockpit cover. I believe if I jammed myself in there I would need a sawzall to get out. Hey, I was really impressed with a fart fan in the head though!! Spent 4 Days in Clearlake TX playing with new boat....Cool It is amazing that that heavy hull moves that fast...Sheez
