formula cabin height

anyone know what the cabin height is in the formula 336 vs comprable fastech (+/- a foot or two)?

Re: formula cabin height

no way a foot ... I think the cabin height is taller but not much ....

Re: formula cabin height

Gotta be like 4' 7" or so. 353 Fastech= 4' 9". Fastech 312= 4' 7".

Sorry, my question was not clear. I didn't mean a foot more hieght between the 336 and a fastech. What I meant to ask was the hieght of a 336 cabin vs a fastech 32, 33, 34' (ie within a foot or so). I know fastechs come in 31' and 35' but wasn't sure if there's a length in between.

yup ..... now your really not clear .... I dont know for sure .... but I think a 336 would have more headroom than a 312 or a 353 ....

Your understanding is the same as mine....although not completely sure that was the question.

Fastechs come in 27, 29, 31(not anymore), 35, 38. The 336 is the older taller style and certainly has more head room than my 312 and I'd bet more than the 353. Formulas website has an area that you can look up old brochures for boats.....

Re: formula cabin height

Just went and got the info.....

1995 336: 4'11'' headroom
1998 312: 4'7''
1998 353: 4'8''
1998 382: 5'1'

Is this what your looking for....

t500,
PERFECT, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I've been eyeballing a 336sr. Everything for sale is out of state so I haven't been in a 336 cabin. Not ready for a cruiser so looking for a go fast (moderately) that has some nice amenities (I'm 6'2"). I think the 336 would be a perfect compromise for me. Thanks for thi info.

Re: formula cabin height

i was looking at the 336 also. was in the same situation as you where i needed a boat with amenities and cabin room. didn't find one that i liked, then my Sonic came along. If the formula falls through, take a look at Sonics, and the Active Thunders. I know of a 98 or 99 32' AT for sale.

Re: formula cabin height

It's funny u mention it. I swore my next boat would be a 35 Sonic... saw one at the boat show back in 2000. Love the lines and the cabin. I live in Phoenix and they are hard to find. My only concerns are the paint schemes seem very basic (late 90's) and I've seen some "waves" in them as well. The upholstery didn't seem as luxurious as the Formula either. Not trying to slam anyone, I still might go with a Sonic. We'll have to see about the budget when it comes down to pulling the trigger.

HiPerf2000,
How do u like your Sonic? What kind of speed are u seeing? Do u have 502s? I've heard nothing but great things from the two Sonic owners I've talked to. They sound like awesome boats. I'd like to stay in the $60-75K range. Don't know if I could pick up a 1997 or newer 35 for that.

Re: formula cabin height

Although I love our Formula, an Active Thunder is our next boat. Several buddies have 37's and I'm just waiting until I can afford one. I haven't been in the 32's but understand they are hard to beat also. If possible you need to check them out too.

Re: formula cabin height

I'm not real familiar with AT, I do think they look great and hear they are excellent. They sound very pricey. What specifically do u like about the AT that sways u away from Formula? It's a small thing, but I tend to like an integrated swim platform. I notice a lot of the heavy hitters use railing platforms (cigarette, scarab, AT, etc).

Re: formula cabin height

I have been in the 37's...not the 32's. They are a true 37 footer without the bolt on platform making them a little longer than the 382. The cabin layout seems much more open and larger. Personally I like the lines of the boat alot. I've run beside a few in the rough and they cut the waves extremely well (maybe better than a Cig! ) while achieving great speed per HP. I have video of one wide open in 4 footers in the bay and the way it stays level looks wild compared to the other boats on the same video. Stock 500's puts the boat at about 80 mph. Like anything else it's a personal preference issue but I think you really need to get on one before you make a desicion.

mine is a 96. Has stock 502's with stainless marine exhaust. I run a consistent 68 - 69 mph GPS, and have seen a best of 71.6. I am trying new props in a couple weeks and think i may get a couple more mph out of it. I have been very happy with the boat. rides like a tank and has alot of room in the cabin and cockpit. and the built in cooler in the Port side dash really makes the boat :drink: I have a fridge, A/C and full bathroom...so the wife is happy....which intern makes a better world for me. :p

You can find one in that price range.

I've been in 2 different 32AT's. Nice boats that ride very well. Cabin is a real good size too. comparable to the 31 Sonic...and I think a bit larger too. They will be faster than the Sonic or formula with equal power. Low to mid 80's with 500's.

this is the one i know that is for sale....fresh 500's.

Thanks for the replies,
thought I had my decision narrowed down to a Formula... now maybe a Sonic or an AT

Bare with me,
one more question. I'm 6'2", will I be able to sleep on the front bed (with girlfriend) of a Formula 336, AT 32, or Sonic 35? If I remember correctly I think the Sonic bed was fairly long but I have no idea what the length of the Formula or AT beds are?

I can't answer that one.....I know I had to build a extension to the bed in my 312 fastech though.

I would ask in the AT owners forumn about the length of the V berth. I will be in my sonic later tonight and will try to remmember to take a measurment for you. I am 5-11 and don't have any problems with length. It is a bit narrow up there, and has minimal head room. I felt kinda claustraphobic (sp) so i made a filler for the 2 bench seats and turned that into our sleeping area.

Here is a pic of the cabin in mine.

I'm 5'11", and we (she is 5'7") can fit in the 336's V berth, but it is terribly claustrophobic so I prefer adding the fillers between the couches and sleeping there. MUCH more room to move around...wider, longer, taller than the V.

COberry,
appreciate the info. I get claustrauphobic (sp?) looking at the roof in my 26 Sleekcraft. The good thing is, the bed is actually wide enough that I sleep across the bed.
Is the dash in the 92-96 336 grey or black. I can never tell in the pics if the boat dash is sun faded black or built grey?

measured my V-berth tonight....it's 6'-11" in the center...from the mirror to the end of the cushion. it's 6'-4" from the mirror to the inside of that fiberglass bulkhead.

A couple of my friends have Sonic 31SS's. Truly the best cabins for this size boat in the business! Don't like Sonic bolsters but the rest of the boat is top notch in my opinion. If I were to buy something other than a Formula, it would be a Sonic. Just one other point about Sonics that is not good with me is the lack of a windshield. I'm an old windshield-kind-of-guy.

Have you considered a Powerquest. The 34 Viper has a full windshield, 5'6'' headroom, seperate crapper/shower, TV, microwave etc. check out PQ site, performance mary has a 34 w/ hp500's....

Yeah, I like Powerquests also (hate the goofy name though, it's like they're looking for power).

As for you Rippem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, don't be bastardizing my quotes,,,,,,,,,,,,, you bastid. :D (But, you're right!!! )

Yeah, I like Powerquests. One friend has a 38 PQ and one has a 41 Formula, I love the ride in the 41- like riding in a caddy. Don't know if it's apples and oranges but I would think with only a 3 foot difference the ride should be close. I'm also a little leary because last I heard PQ is out of business.
