The boat is in mint condition for the exception of this headliner problem. I purchased it from an owner out of Florida who did not use it very often and it was closed up in the Florida heat and humidity which is what they tell me caused this headliner foam material to disintegrate and lose it's glue hold on the vinyl headliner material.
What ever.... It still should not happen to a five year old boat of this type. Formula knows this has happened in the past and refuses to acknowledge this and that is if the right people at Formula are even aware of this. I could only communicate with Daryl Johnson who was never available for your calls and took over a month to return my multiple e-mails regarding the problem. I did offer to bring the boat to Formula in the fall for this repiar. I will write a letter to Scott Porter and see where that gets me. :( |
Where did you get the replacement vinyl? And did it have the foam backing? I am thinking about replacing my headliner with the same color BUT WITHOUT the foam.

We removed ours and had a local shop reinstall new vinyl at a cost of a big $581.30 and i installed it back into the boat ,getting the headliner out is a pain in the :Whatever:

My 1999 has a few spots about the size of a saucer where the headliner is falling down. A 1996 I looked at had 6 - 8 sq feet hanging down. So I don't think its an isolated problem, but I guess we are on our own as far as Formula is concerned. Knowing how to take the panels down is a help. NAPA sells headliner glue.

I know this is an old thread but....my headliner is completely down now. Looks just like the pics at the beginning of this thread. It started in just a few places but each time i took the boat out, more fell down. The foam on the back of the material has completely disintegrated. I bought the material from Formula and I guess I am ready to do the job myself. They were only willing to give a discount on the cost of the material, but not pay for having it replaced. I REALLY don't want to tear into all this myself. Does anyone here on the West coast know a shop that has done it for them? Would love to find a shop whose already done it and knows the drill. If not, please post any tips you guys have learned when doing this job and I'll tear into it. I have an instruction sheet from Formula (that means this happens alot) but it ain't much help....

I just e mailed Mr. Johnson with Formula. My 95 382 SR1 is having a headliner issue also. I want them to know that this is an issue with more than just a few boats with bad adheasive. My boat is 14 years old with 194 hours on it and is in better condition than most new boats. I'm not happy with the dealer that qouted me $7,349 to fix it. I don't expect financial assistance but some direction and concern is what I'm looking for. I will keep everyone posted. I had never heard of this happening and now all of a sudden as I research it, it seems to be a common issue with Formula. I have owned many other boats and have always found Formula to be the qaulity that I paid for. I hope they have an economical solution for me.
