Gas has been dripping out of the tank vent on the side of the boat for 2 days now???? did I just majorly over fill this thing or what??

Yep , more than likely. Mine does the same thing if I fill it on the way home in anticipation of the next trip. The gas gets warmer and expands. So , I usually fill it on the way out :cool:

I had the same problem...but most because my fuel gauge wasn't working correctly and I was putting in to much gas. I was wondering why the boat was slower...turns out I was carrying 100+ gallons of fuel.

I had my mechanic look at the vent (sometimes spiders make a home in there) and it was fine. But he did say that the fuel lines/filler line and vent lines were getting old. So I had him replace them all from the tank to the carb and then the fuel filler hoses. Probably a good idea on an older boat. :)

Mine did the same thing. I installed a couple of devices on the vent lines to prevent this. Formula sells them.

Fuel expands greatly when heated. If you fill when the air is cooler the heat of the day will cause this. When I first got it my Formula had a stream (yes, not a drip) that lasted all day. I finally siphoned about 8-10 gallons out and have been cautious not to top off unless I was heading out to the river straight from the gas pump.

Tell us more. Is it one of those check valves that allows air to pass but stops gas?

thanks guys, I definitely wont fill it up before hand anymore. Duken whats up with these devices? I have a new line from the tank to the filter and to the carb I might change out the filler and vent line next if my mechanic thinks its getting worn out

Yes it is. I had the same thing happen last year. I filled the boat up and put it in the warehouse during a hot week. It must have leaked out 3-4 gallons of fuel and it stained the white part on the hull all the way down to the fender. I installed these two "valves" that Formula recommended. I forget how much they were. (Bought them through MajicFloat) Haven't leaked a drop since. I'll be able to get the name of the devices next weekend when I get down to the boat.

Took about 5 minutes. Just detach the line that is currently attached to the vent(s) and place the new on in between the detached hose and the vent(s). Then just tie wrap the unit to keep it secured. Piece of cake! :drink:
