Starter Solenoid??

Lately my boat has been doing a lot of clicking before it turns over. It used to just do it when it was cold buy now it seems to be going it more often. After about 7-8 attempts it does crank over and start up. Is this that slave solenoid going bad? If so does anyone know where it is located?

Thanks guys

Re: Starter Solenoid??

check your battery, all your conections, mine did that a couple years ago and we cleaned all the battery conections and it worked fine, it might not be getting enough juice. I have replaced the started since then....

You could also have a dead spot on the starter. Like 88 said check your wires first and if you see any corrosion were the wire case connects to the connectio replace the wire. You would be amazed how much power can be lost in just a little corrosion.

Re: Starter Solenoid??

Not sure what engine you have, but on my 350 MAG the slave solenoid is on a bracket mounted to the front starboard corner of the engine There is a circuit breaker there too.
Try jumping the two large connections on the solenoid with pliers. If it cranks easily then that's the problem.

NOTE: Be careful attempting this test. Once the connection is made the engine will crank immediately! Keep hands and tools clear of moving parts.

Try also www.boatfix.com
You'll need the engine serial number to look up parts on Mercruiser Parts or Boat Fix.

BTW: A slave solenoid for my engine is 14.95 from Boat Fix. Same part from Mercruiser Parts is 23.95.
