Broken Plexiglass cabin entry

Any takes on who can manufacture a replacement. Just got off the phone with Formula and they do not have the patterns for this anymore. This is the entry piece that you fold back and lift up to open the cabin door. Thick black plexiglass. This just bites.

An acrylic shop can make it for you. How bad is it broken? Maybe fix it with Weld-on until you get the replacement.

You can do it. You need a sheet of 1/4" acrylic (Peidmont Plastics). Measure and cut to size. Take 2 2X4's and clamp the piece you need to bend between them. Run a heat gun back and forth along the bend area until it bends to 90 degrees. Then drill for all the hardware.

Re: Broken Plexiglass cabin entry

We bought a sheet at Home Depot. It was clear so we just painted it.

Smoked 1'4 inch Lexan will work as well. You can also bend it in a sheetmetal brake and it won't crack on ya!

Re: Broken Plexiglass cabin entry

What model Formula? Does if have a curved top, or just square? I busted mine in my 242 by not having it latched when I jumped a cruiser wake. It was flat. I went to a plastics place, and had them cut a pieced to size, then I drilled the holes and installed it. You can run a bottle torch along the edges, to round them off (bullnose we call it in the tile trade :) ). They would have made the whole thing, but I wanted to save money. My 302 has a curved door, and the top at the curve is busted off. It had been siliconed on, but came off.

THere is an acrylics shop here in Melbourne that will replicate that for you--Austin Acryilcs--Steve Austin.

They do a lot of prototype work and trade show stuff for Grumman, Lockheed, Harris.

Steve is a boater and likes the change of pace for this sort of thing. He has all the stuff in stock, hear forming machines, laminatingg, bonding, 6 axis CNC routers.

He made starboard swim paltform and some other starboard and acrylic stuff for me.

Sorry for bad info--J.W. Austin Industries on Ellis Road is the company name. Steve is there and will work with you--his work is better than my postings.

The place I used was Farco Plastics in Largo, Fl. I'm sure there is some place closer to you. Check in the yellow pages under plastics.

I had one made for my 242LS by a guy in NC for $150. I sent him the original part and he copied it. The hard part apparently is bending the plastic. The original part has a 90 degree bend...the copy was like 75 degrees but you don't really notice it once it's on there. Here is a picture. If the million dollar man is too busy or something and you are interested I'll dig up the guy's name and email. I bet it would be an easy job for him....he's already made one :)

This is sort of off topic, but not too far; The mirrors under my hatch are crappy looking. The mirror finish is flaking off. Can these be recoated or is replacement more feasible? Glass shop?

I have no idea what kind of business could do this.

Magic Float, that is the name Formula gave me I just never pursued it. Have you used them? Not that I don't follow up on Formula suggestions, I have used this website with our Formula people for good info so many times, its hard to be lead wrong .

Thirdbird any Lowes or Home depot or glass shop can cut and bevel you a new piece. You can even go as far as to have one made for inside your glove box so that your female riders can fix their lipstick after a GOOD run :evilb:

I've never seen mirrored plastic at home Depot either .... a glass shop for sure ... mines flakin off too ... was thinking about just removing em ...but Cuda's mention of colored mirror might not be bad ....some of the mirror in the cabin is flakin too ........

About the cover ....if its not broke too bad maybe repair it with Epoxy and paint the whole thing ...I'm sure you'd rather have new ... I would ... m

speaking of mirrors, is there a purpose for the mirrors or is it just to be 1980's cool?
