Newbie!
Looking through yall's threads made me join. I have a bit of a dilema on my hands. I'm in the market for a formula, not sure which route to go. I've driven many formula boats (272sr1, 292sr1, 242ss, 353 fastech) loved everyone. I've grown up around boats, my family has owned two (26 and 31PC's), personally I love performance. I'm two weeks away from graduating college, about to start life out in the real world. I figure I would give myself a little present. My budget is extremely limited. I would love a 1990-91 272sr1, but 242LS is more realistic. In my quest Ifound a 242LS, boat is real nice. Clean inside and out. Motor was rebuilt in 1997. I would love to get some opinions/feedback.

Re: Newbie!
Seems like a decent boat for $22. I love my 87 242SS. It is a heavy boat and will not be as fast as some other brand boats, but the ride and quality is worth it, not to mention the looks. good luck!

Re: Newbie!
Welcome, This boat looks nice, but 22k may be steep. Make sure you get a survey on the boat make sure the engine is sound.
good luck |

Newbie:
I was in your shoes too. Grew up on Sea Ray 33 and a 37. Graduated college and wanted my own boat...Performance boat. I was patient (took 3 summers) but finally found the right boat, 1996 271 SR1 and got it for 10k less than market value. Let word of mouth get out that youre in the market a while and a good deal will come by. |
Re: Newbie!
I know, I gotta be patient. I know nothing is going to happen this summer. Hopefully by next summer or so I will have some more money in the bank and start to really pursue it. Thanks for yalls opinions.

Have a seat...hang out for a while, we'll help you find a boat :)
For some of us it's almost a part time job searching for boats. Trenton Marine Center (a Formula dealer) has a 242LS listed for $12K. You'd have to call for more details b/c their website doesn't say much. http://www.trentonmarine.com/store/p...pID=245&cID=58 I'm not sure where you a located, but this one in NY looks nice for $15K (though I'm partial to bolster seats) http://www.speedwake.com/upload/show...threadid=40242 http://www.speedwake.com/classifieds...php?a=2&b=1029 I paid $16K for a 89 242LS on a trailer in 2003. Of course the motor went south on me but that's another story... $22K sounds high to me too, but if it was perfect could be a nice boat. For that money I'd want a 1990 or 1991 with a 502 :) I think you'll find that many of the internet listings are optimistic when it comes to price and many sit for a while. But you never know until you call. You can never pay too much for a cream puff and never get a dog cheap enough. :drink: |
Re: Newbie!
I loved my 242, but it was a twin. Is there a trailer included? Good looking boat.
