Newbie looking for late 80s 272 SR1
First post on OSO, I've been trolling for a few days now. I'm new to offshores but have been around boats and the water all my life. The 272 SR1 has been my dream boat since it came out when I was in high school; easily trailerable but with twins and a decent cabin. Looks like I might be able to finally get in one.
I've seen a bunch online and a couple in person. I found one local to me (South Florida) with the blue hull which I'm extremely partial to. I think he's a bit proud of it also considering his asking price and condition, but maybe I should loosen the purse-strings just a bit; I'm not sure. Knowing it's not original, what are the thoughts on not having a counter-rotating drive? I haven't upgraded my membership yet so I can't post/see pics; that should happen soon. Hopefully you guys will tolerate my newbie questions for a while. Thanks, Michael |
Re: Newbie looking for late 80s 272 SR1
Welcome hands. SR-1s are great boats with good opportunities to get great value. If you can get in, this thread has a potential seller of a really nice 272.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...04#post1836804 I love my '89 292. From what I can tell the prices for SR-1s move in 10k intervals depending on power and ranges within those 10k intervals in accordance to the hull and interior condition/trailer/drives/hyd. steering, etc. Example: stock '89 292 with 330s = 20k, add options and trailer and good condition and it works it's way up. If the motors have been upgraded like MPIs or EFIs or if the factory motors were Hi-Perf and are in mint condition = 30k + options, etc. Blue or blown motors in mint cond. gets you into the 40s with all the options and good condition. Just my 2cents. Enjoy your search. I ended up going with an SR in fair condition as far as hull, interior. Good condition for '89 I guess. But her heart and soul had been upgraded with 502 EFIs, new Bravos and IMCO full hydraulics. So far so good. GRIZ |

What part of South Florida are you in? I'm still toying with the idea of selling my 1990 292SR1 with 454 mags. It has 365 hours. Just upgraded the exhaust with a Stainless Marine setup. Let me know.
I just tried to upload the pics. It says file too large. I can never figure out how to do that! If you want, PM me and I'll shoot ya some pics. |
Re: Newbie looking for late 80s 272 SR1
Thanks guys. I can see pics now, nice setup Mopwer.
formula1, I'm in Ft. Lauderdale. I think I'm stuck on an 80's vintage with small blocks. But feel free to try and shrink those photos so we can all see :) The local 272 I wanted just went up in price because he did the xhaust and alternators over the weekend. At least I got some photos of the boat yesterday. There's one in New York that needs a lot of TLC. I'm mechanically capable, but not sure if I want another "project", or something that's turn-key ready to go. Michael |
Re: Newbie looking for late 80s 272 SR1
Fortunately for us, South Florida has perfect boating all year round! The bad news is that there is no down time (due to weather, ie winter) to spend alot of wrench time without feeling like you are missing out on prime boating weather!
My boat is turn key. If you PM me your email, then, I could send you some pics. But, if you are stuck on a pair of small blocks, then, no matter how sharp or how inexpensive my big block boat might be, it probably won't work for you. |
