Re: Let's Here Those BIG Water Stories...
About 3 years ago on lake Champlian I was at a fun run with GLH, Waterheater,TopDj, and a few others. After parting all nite we woke up to a strong south wind atleast 10-15mph it turned that lake into something ugly 4-5 footers. Well we went out to meet other people only a few showed. What a great time even my wife enjoyed it :D

Re: Let's Here Those BIG Water Stories...
A few weeks ago in Lake Erie we were in 3-5's with an occasional 6' thrown in for good measure - small craft advisory (I would not care to be in any rougher water). The Great Lakes are Funny because sometimes you can run 3-5's and sometimes you just should'nt be on the water. We were the only boat on the water. I know there are allot of boats that are faster in smooth water and faster in rough water BUT this boat just handles awesome! I have been in this type of garbage water with previous boats and the formula does'nt bang you around, is more forgiving and predictable. I was surprised how much it actually takes to get one of these old girls to fly, but they fly level and have a soft re-entry.
The best part is after the ride we hit the dock, turned the AC, opened the fridge for an ice cold (but foamy) beer. :drink: |

Running off Fort Lauderdale in very nice 1-2's in a 1996 382- easy ride into Hallover inlet and stuffed the boat into a single 6' er @ 20 mph - took out the driver side windshield - becuase it is tempored it shattered into a million pcs - cut me & passenger from head to toe still finidng glass 2 years later - glass cost $ 2,400.00 frame $ 1,800. 00 -cheap sunglasses saved the eyes , not wearing shoes walking on broken glass sucked - does not have to be fast to be exciting

Re: Let's Here Those BIG Water Stories...
Worst water was 6-8's in 20 mph N.E. winds taking a 28 cruiser up the entire Cheasapeake bay. Scariest ride was 6's coming out of Lynnhaven (Va. Beach) with the wife and a 10 month old in a.....dare I say.....26 BAYLINER.
Worst water for my Formula. 312 in solid 5 foot stormed whipped chop. Bad part was I had to keep up with a 42 Sonic and 35 Cafe Racer. Only had 2 mild stuffs and fixed everything that broke in an hour or 2. |

I boat in western Lake Erie,a couple weeks ago we went out to go to the Islands in 6-8-10 footers in a 311 SR1 It did well considering,we did have are jackets on for safety.

Re: Let's Here Those BIG Water Stories...
rambunctious here.
as told by my baby sister: Her friend, in his twenties, took his buddy one impuslive night across lake michigan to Milwaukee for dinner with his dad's 382. ( b'cause they could) it is 88 miles. they headed back that same evening. but were caught by a major thunder storm coming from behind them. they pounded the waves, running full throttle just to climb some. numerous stuffs from oncoming storm swells caused them to lose their instrumentation and consple lighting. they only had the compass. They were in such dire straits that they made piece with the lord, so scared and confident they would not make it back. after something like 7 or 8 hrs they saw a light. the holland lighhouse, thier origin. the cost guard recorded 18' swells from that storm. I have been in 10' waves on Lake Mich, the day they cancelled a boat race in Grand Haven. and have run many times in 4' plus ( jsut see my fly level pic) Rambunctious Go formula :woohoo: |

Re: Let's Here Those BIG Water Stories...
89 242ss, Lake superior apostle islands i ran in 5 foot chop inland from madeline island, when we rounded the north side of the island and hit the 10-12 footers we turned back. This boat was great in anything up to 5 ft, throttle down, tabs and drive up and go!
