shortie drive on older 242

Anyone try a shortie drive on an older 242 ls? Was thinking about trying a 2" shortie on my 88, just looking for the positives and negatives. I've read a post on another site where someone raised the x-dimension 2" with good results.
Also where is the best place to purchase one and do you just buy the casing and the vertical shaft? A used one would be nice, but I haven't seen one in a while.

Thanks

I read the same article and was rather amazed , particularly at the price he paid for the relocation job. I have come to the conclusion that is my problem on my 272 also. I have over 1200 hp (dynoed) in a 272 and have to flog it like an old race horse to get above 80 while "Cay Formula" has blown 454s of about the same hp and no Silent thunder platform and claims 93   . He too has shorties

I couldn't believe what he paid to raise the motor either. I'm sure I wouldn't find that deal so I started looking into the lowers. Starting over with props is a scarry thought, but I think it would be worth it in the end.

That was me that did that. Ironically, the guy closed up shop last week. Guess he wasn't charging enough.

Knew it was too good to be true. :(

Waaaayyyy to good to be true! That was a great deal.
Bop, how has the update been working out for you?

Guess I have the winter to learn about the shortie lowers.

Works great. Only complaint is that I find it wanders at low speed. I think that is just from having less drive in the water. Definetly runs better at anything planing. I have the wrong prop too. I am sorting that out now. Overall, I am very happy with everything. The guy who did it is still around, he just doesn't have a shop to work in for now. He'll be back up somewhere I'm sure.
