What is this for:

Can anyone tell me what this pump is for. I cannot figure out what it runs, pumps or is attached to? This is on a 2000 - 382.

That pump is to drain the bildge area under the step in the cabin.
The only way to turn it on is with the float switch.

Re: What is this for:

I found out by winterizing the AC system and dumping alot of pink antifreeze under the cabin step. I'm guessing that type of pump can pull water a great distance so they use that type. It sounds funny when it comes on but it pulls most of the water out of that area. Remember with a stepped hull water gets trapped up there.

The pic you posted is of the pump for the bilge.

The pump that is in a box under the step is to pump out the drain water from the sink and any drain water from the floor in the head.

Re: What is this for:

It is a remote pump that helps pull water from the cabin step area. The pump up there isn't strong enough. The shower drains into the step. The bige is pumped with a pair of conventional Rule pumps under the engines.

Re: What is this for:

you will find two float switches under the step that are not in the shower sump.
The switch looks like a blue box, you can turn the pivot pin and activate the pump.
The lower one is for the pump and the higher one is for the high water alarm, the alarm takes a few seconds to sound if you want to test it.
I hope this helps.

Thank you all for the response, it was a great help and now I know what it does since it has never been activated until I winterized it.

I recommend ear muffs when testing the high water alarm. I tested mine and scared myself to death. Guess they want me to be able to hear it when running WOT. :)

I had to sit down and drink a beer afterwards to recover. :)
