Not the fastest, but this is mine with 645 H.P. Used to run 114 m.p.h. with 950 H.P. per previous owner.

Somewhere there is one that had 1,000+ hp and claimed 112 (or something in that range). My 382 had 8 PSI Prochargers on 500EFI's but they have just been sold and rebuilding blower-less power. Procharger claimed that set-up was worth 830HP (not sure I believe that though). New mills will be finished this winter and won't keep up with the old set-up!!! :(
With Prochargers: (props and hull needed a little work for more) |
Re: Fastest 382 out there
There are 2 in Ca,one with Arnesons and one with B-Max drives (CAFormula I think on the board) that are strong runners, but don't know the #'s. An 07 with 700's and optional cleaver props is Formula rated at 93,and they are pretty conservative with their published figures,so maybe 95?

Re: Fastest 382 out there
I have an old article in a magazine around here somewhere about the one in Cali with Arnesons. It was over 100 mph.

Re: Fastest 382 out there
The 382 APBA pace boat would do about 75mph with HP500 efi's. Doesn't the new 700 Merc get it to 85mph? This was just reviewed in one of the boat mags.
These boats for a step bottom take an imense amount of power to really go fast. |
Re: Fastest 382 out there
The 600/Stellings boxes boat we recently delivered GPS'd at 87. It had genset and air. I would guess a 700 boat with no genset/air should be able to see close to 95. I will know for sure in Feb :p

Re: Fastest 382 out there
Majicfloat yes it was the 600's...what mag was the test in? I forgot. I would think 700's would push a Formula to over 100. seeing that Fountains, Cigs, Donzi's, Outlimits ect are well over 110 with those engines.

Re: Fastest 382 out there
Bham Show will have a Spyder/600 boat. The 700 boat is a sold boat with the new red Flagship graphics. And hey,Fever Mike,Formula doesn't build any 100 mph stock boats and they don't want to. We are happy with our gentlemen's performance boats at lower speeds :p Anyone that wants ultimate speed, there are lots of brands that outrun us.If I wanted ultimate speed I might buy a Fountain, but most likely a Velocity instead. To each his own. I imagine most Fountain owners are quite happy with their boats. But I also know for sure most Formula owners are extremely happy with theirs. :drink:

Re: Fastest 382 out there
The new 700's should put a 382 in the 90's.....90+mph in a "brick-chithouse" makes me plenty happy!!!

Re: Fastest 382 out there
Don't read more into that than I intended :p I said IF I wanted ultimate speed (which I don't) I would buy a Velocity (a 320)instead of a Fountain, however I will buy neither. And as far as ultimate speed, too bad Darris Allison doesn't build an offshore boat :drink: Rippem, you know the influence Paul and Darris had on the 2 just mentioned brands, lots of stories could be told there  Plus I already have my ultimate speedboat,a 1968 Switzer Shooting Star/125 Merc with SSM lower. :drink:

Re: Fastest 382 out there
Rippem, I WAS not talking bad about Formula. However, if you can't handle it then YOU need to stay off the Fountain board and slamming us over there. :evilb: :drink:
Yes it was Powerboat that did the test on the HP600 Formula and top speed was low 80's 82 I think...I do not keep my back issues. |
Re: Fastest 382 out there
Just havin' fun a Velocity fans favorite healthy living advocate...
who's forever pointing out the hazards of "potato chips" :p EDIT: I know Mike, actually you did point out the boats' nice overall design/layout? |
Re: Fastest 382 out there
Potato Chips are hazardous to your health! :D

I had the same Powerboat mag that had article with the Arnesons. The boat was running 115 plus and they thought that eventually it would run past the 120 mark... |

77-78 with HP525 79-80 maybe 81 with HP600 I know, I was looking into the 382 the last few months for my possible next performance boat. I like the lines of the boat and the moveable steps in the cockpit that you stand on. However for various reasons I have decided to take another path. |
Re: Fastest 382 out there
Even though I don't sell Formulas any longer, I still have my F-2 boat. We are putting Stellings stand-off boxes on it over the winter and will see what we can do to increase the horsepower from the twin HP-500's. The boxes alone should get it to near 100 MPH, since it would do an honest 90-92 MPH light on fuel in race trim. Then, depending on how much HP we add we'll see what the net results are. Either way it should be quick as a poker run boat!
