Depth Gauge
Hey everyone,
My depth gauge on my 382 is malfunctioning. It will sometimes read the correct depth when I first turn it on. But, within 30 seconds to a minute, it will start reading 1.0 ft and never changes after that. The forward bilge had water covering the depth sensor when I got the boat and the depth gauge worked. The forward bilge was dry after sitting last summer waiting to get the new drives on the boat and the depth gauge hasn't worked since. Is it possible that the depth sounder needs some water on top of it to make it work? Seems unlikely. What is the typical failure mode of these things? I thought I might just order a new one and plug a new display into the same sensor to see if it works. It's the Hummingbird HDR-600 that probably everyone has. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Garrett |
Probrably either bad transducer or it has come loose from the hull. You can buy a new one with trans for less than $100,plug the new trans in,drop it overboard,if it reads the head is OK,then glass the new trans in with the epoxy that comes with it,and you have an extra head for stock. A replacement trans costs nearly as much as the complete assembly.

Thanks! I'll give it a try!
