New to Formulas...

Hey guys... great forum, very informative. I am new to Formulas, but they seem to have a great following.

Has anyone seen the 1987 Blue 357 SR-1 on Ebay?? If I might ask, what is it worth with the following:

502 EFI's 180hrs or so
TRS drives
A/C??
GPS
NO Trailer :(
recent interior
Shore Power
Fridge/Head/etc

Thanks!!

First, welcome to the board. There are few bad reports about Formula boats or Formula service. You can certainly do worse than buying a Formula.

About the 357, I didn't go to eBay to find it. But, assuming it's in rel nice condition I'll say maybe 30 grand. With no trailer it may only bring mid to upper twenties. Post up some pics of this rig and I'm sure you'll get more input. Someone here may even know the boat. Remember though, you'll need a Kenworth to pull it. :p

Oh... so true! Let's say a dually is about the minimum... 3/4 works, but 1 tonne is better.

Welcome aboard!

Be careful. That boat has been bottom painted with the anti-foul stuff.

anti-fouling paint??

Ok, I am considering myself officially stupid, but I have to ask... what does being painted with anti-fouling paint mean? I assume he did it because he wanted to keep the marine growth off the bottom. could it mean that there is damage he is covering up? or does it mean that the drives are junk because they are in the salt water for a significant amount of time??

Scott, it could mean a lot of things or nothing. It could mean that the drives are junk. If it sat in the water a lot and there's wood inside, even a small leak around the drives, etc. could mean the dreaded rot. I think the ad said WOT of 85mph. If it actually did that, it didn't do it with the anti-foul on the bottom. With that power that boat might do 75... If he's stretching the WOT 10mph what else is he stretching? The stuff is expensive or a nightmare to get off. Since he's put EFIs in her the salt may have ate-up the original motors. All this and more. Or maybe nothing. Hard to tell. Actually from the pics it looks like a nice boat. Good luck. Keep asking questions, you'll do fine.

Scott, welcome to the forum and hopefully the Formula family. You won't find a better group of people and a resource for infromation. Regarding the bottom paint, as Griz stated, it could mean a lot of things or it could mean nothing. It is typically not preferred to have this paint applied to these performance boats, because it lowers the performance. It could just be that the previous owner didn't have access to alift, boatel or didn't want to keep it on a trailer. Who knows. Just be cautious when looking at these types of boats with bottom paint, its a tough job getting it off.

Bottom paint doesn't always mean salt water.....

I've bought two boats with bottom paint, and I'll never do it again, I don't care how good of a deal I think it is.
