382 question

I looked at a used 2004 382 with twin 525's yesterday. My question Is there surpose to be more than two batterys. I saw one for the generator and on the port side there was one but looked like there should have been another one rite beside it but the marina sayed no. Is their one missing??? thanks candyman

My '99 382 has a Group 27 deep cycle for the "house" battery for all accessories and a Group 24 starting battery, both mounted on the port side.

Robert?

On an 04 with factory genset, should be a group 31 house,a group 24 start and a group 24 for gen

dukenrock 03-12-2007 08:18 PM

One on the port side and one on the starboard parallel to the back seat.

I stand corrected:drink:

Robert,

Can you tell me what Formula uses for a mounting box for a group 31 battery? Wonder if Fred would carry something to upgrade with ...

Chris

Magicfloat 03-12-2007 09:16 PM

Most of the companies that make the boxes have all the sizes.Fred should have them.

Is having one battery going to be a problem. I always had two with a switch on my 312. candyman

Port battery is a 31,starts port eng and is the house battery. SB batt is a 24,starts SB eng and gen. Works fine.

dukenrock 03-13-2007 12:18 PM

If it was mine, I'd have two............

Magicfloat 03-13-2007 12:44 PM

There are switches to swap sides or double up. If one side is dead you can use the other side.

we're talking about batteries here right? :D :D

I still need to understand how to add a 3rd batt. to a two battery set-up like my 353. I go some pretty remote places and play the stereo all day. I've considered adding a 3rd. Even just a 24 in the bilge somewhere. As you know in the 353 two 27's are housed in floorwells beneath the back seat.

anybody have a schematic handy for such a setup?

Hey Rippem, call Steve Foulk 732 904 2289,he is a wiring guru,he should be able to get you fixed up.Good luck.:drink:

I was working in the boat today and checked the batteries. The house battery is not a Group 27 ... it is a Group 29.

Magicfloat 03-14-2007 04:41 PM

Haven't seen a Group 29 in years,I think the 31 replaced it and is the same physical size

An extra battery sounds like cheap insurance to me :D
