Formula Letters and Bird Sizes and Prices

1 Attachment(s)
If anyone needs new letters or birds, attached is a document Formula sent me with order #'s, sizes and prices (you have to order through a dealer). For some reason when you look at the attachment as a regular word document, the dimensions don't appear. If you print it or look at in print preview, you'll see the dimentions. Also note that the "large" bird goes for around $17.00, the smaller one is around $60.00!! No one at Formula can explain why but I suspect the bigger bird is in for a huge price increase as soon as they use up their inventory on hand-

Thanks

Don't panic over that $60 bird, minor error. The small one listed is not what most of us consider to be the small one on most late model boats, but a really small emblem used on the 240 BR. Reason it is so expensive is it is metal, used on the 48 Yacht. It was used on the 240BR cause it needed a really small emblem and it was available. The bird on all other late boats is # 6895,retail $18.04. Unless you have a 240BR or a 48 Yacht you won't need to spend $60 .I expect both of the popular ones to stay at around $17-$18 for quite awhile.(Rewriiten to keep Rippem's head from spinning):drink:

I purchased a small bird and letters to put on a custom panel I fabricated for over the "glove box". It looked a bit shinier but didn't feel to me like it was metal. I'll look again-

Magicfloat 03-17-2007 11:52 AM

That's a different decal,it is plastic,and even smaller. This is getting complicated:p

Ouch! I just got off the phone with my mom, and she said my older brother just had one.

When I first moved to Deland, I had to find a new doctor, so I could get my blood pressure medicine renewed. He gave me a physical, then asked me how old I was, When I said fifty, he said I should think about a colonoscopy, I looked at him sideways, and said, "Not on the first date Doc".:D :D

I always thought you specialized in hornothology ( birds of a different species ). :D

The only thing I've ever seen you do with the feathered ones is try to place lead in their a$$.

If I was home I'd post that pic of the pest you had trying to roost in the beam in the front of your slip that I put to "floating" under the "beak"

I think you'd have it framed. :drink:

30-something is a good thing. If I recall correctly. ;)

ctuck0659 03-18-2007 12:48 PM

This discussion has detoured into some pretty wierd side-roads, but if I can swerve back onto the highway for just a second, I stand by what I said earlier: If the cost of a small plastic bird is $60.00, it's bound to be just a matter of time before the price of the standard 6" one skyrockets-

Magicfloat 03-18-2007 01:29 PM

Reread my original post. The $60 bird is metal, originally designed for the 900K 48 Yacht, used for convenience on the 240BR.All older Formulas use the $17 "large" one and later models use the $18 "small " one,not to be confused with the $60 "extra small" one.

in at least one sense anyway...:D

as I'm sure you recall correctly

Rippem 03-18-2007 04:13 PM

let me see if even an old burnout can master this...

METAL BIRD = $60.00 (48 Yacht, also used for convenience on 240 BR)

LARGER OF THE TWO CHROME PLASTIC BIRDS = $18 (SR-1 ERA)

SLIGHTLY SMALLER CHROME PLASTIC BIRD= $17 (FasTech ERA)

3 BIRDS
2 MATERIALS

large quantity of confusion. :p

PRICELESS!!!

ctuck0659 03-18-2007 07:25 PM

I hate to argue with you Magicflaot, but here's the deal- The small Bird I bought, #174078, 4.5"X4.5" isn't metal, its plastic and I paid $59.83 for it. I questioned Formula via e-mail about why it was so much more expensive and here's the answer I got cut and psated from thier reply:
"If you would like a small one the smallest one that we have is part number 174078. Yes this new smaller bird is a lot more expensive, then the larger one. We do not have a good explanation for this one."

Wether or not that means the larger ones will go up too, I'm only guessing and as dealer I'm sure you know more than me, but I still think it's a logical conclusion....

Bottom line, it doesn't really matter all that much- the price difference we're talking about is a few gallons of marina gas, I just think it's strange-

Magicfloat 03-18-2007 08:44 PM

OK,this is my last post on this subject,I hope:D Older bird is about 6-1/2",$17,newer one is 5-1/2",$18. The $60 one is much smaller, and I could have sworn it was metal, but I must have been wrong, never gave it much thought as I doubted I would rarely sell one,as I don't sell the 48 Yacht and only a few 240BR's. But ya'll must admit that we really didn't have many more interesting things to discuss on a cold weekend other than this, and it has been fun.:drink:

Rippem 03-18-2007 09:00 PM

I know I'm exhausted......

ctuck0659 03-19-2007 09:41 AM

Certainly a lot more fun than my last colonoscopy-:D

Need Gold letters and bird for 280BR

Some jackass hit my boat when he tried to tie up. Took off one side of letters and bird. Need to replace. Any idea which size goes on the 2001 280BR? I need it in gold, and need to know where to order!

Thanks!

berns29scarab 03-22-2007 06:47 PM

so which letter would be the chrome ones on the side of my 99 353 fastec... ?

Magicfloat 03-22-2007 07:17 PM

One more time:rolleyes: Up to 1993 we always said large birds and letters.1993 to present we always said small. But the 48 Yacht and 240BR now use a small/small/small bird and letters, which now may mean small, and the 1993 to present on everything else is now considered medium(I hate all of this):p If you have a 1993 to 2007 (except 48 and 240 )you need what I will still call small.48 and 240 owners can call them medium,I don't care:drink: :D I stock most of them or will drop ship, but check first with your local Formula dealer,he should be able to help you.Hope this helps:cool:

seef158 03-27-2007 12:51 PM

Question: 89 F242ss, how do you get the emblems and letters off the port and starbord sides in the rear of the boat, i want to replace or re-chrome mine?

Iggy 03-27-2007 01:37 PM

Joe, if you haven't had one yet it's no big deal.
I had my "first" last year. The only bad part is the "flushing" of your system. On the day of the "inspection" they knock you out. Didn't feel a thing.
Actually I had it done twice. The first flush didn't work well enough and I had to go home flush again then come back the following day. Violated twice in as many days!

I know this is a very old post, but I want to order these letters and I my local dealer has been no help. Anyone know where to get them?

Thanks

JimNut 07-12-2017 09:56 PM

Just purchased a replacement bird as well as a few individual letters that fell off last year when I rafted up a few times. Found everything on eBay brand new earlier this summer. Just search "formula boat letters"

Splitdecision271 07-13-2017 11:31 AM

searayman13 on ebay always has stuff
