Smoke coming from starboard side of thunder box!

First thanx to everyone for the tips has been helpful since I am a new Formula owner.

Question is does anyone get smoke coming from the starboard side of exhaust after a hard run? As soon as I slow down to idle I get white smoke coming out the exhaust. Is this normal or does anybody else get this also? I have a 1999 271 fastech w/502 mag MPI and still has the thunder box on the boat.

When you slow down the water flow around the exhaust slows down faster than the exhaust cools down, in many cases this will create steam. Compare the riser temps between the two exhaust manifolds and make sure they are fairly close (you should be able to lay a hand on at idle at all times). If they are even you should be fine, if one is hotter you need to check your water pump and for restriction in the hot manifold's riser.

Could be minor wear in the valve train. Oil accumulation around valve guides. Exhaust valves not seating while they are a little hotter than normal.

Is it blue smoke or white steam? The white steam is a common occurence for the above listed reasons.

White = Steam (Normal)

Blue or Gray = Oil or fuel (Not normal)

I am getting stem and the starboard side riser is way hotter than the other. So much hotter that I can barly hold my hand on it. Sounds like I have a blockage issue.

A little bit of steam may be normal. Constant steam is certainly not normal. I had pretty much constant steam. Tore my engines down, Magnaflux of the heads revealed three out of four with multiple cracks. Water was entering my combustion chambers - not good!! New Iron Eagles solved the problem.

Now, nothing but exhaust cooling water comes out. :cool:
