Formula 370 SS opinions?
I have been looking hard at the 370SS and was gung ho until I talked to an owner tonight. Guy came out of a 33 Powerplay to a brand new 370 and sold it a year later. Boat was great for barhopping/ hanging out but was a beating going to the Bahamas. His biggest complaint was it rode hard, came down hard in 2-3ft chop and burned a lot of fuel. He said he would rather take the 33 PP than the 370 on a 60 mile ocean crossing. I was thinking this boat would be a best of both worlds (60 MPH, shade and A/C) in a cruiser but am now thinking that it may not be the boat for me.:(
Anyone taken a 370 out in choppy conditions? |
Ive riden in one on the lake. Had the 5.7 (I think ??) volvos with Duoprop drives. He is also trying to sell it, was a little to slow for him. Plus, it was a lot of money from the start. anyway its a real nice boat and I dont known where he gets the thing about it riding hard, granted, there is no ocean sized rollers on the lake but there can be a 2-3 foot chop.
Hope that helps |
Pure physics. It's going to ride harder than a pure offshore boat simply due to a wider beam. I have not had the opportunity to ride on one yet.

Never had an unhappy 370SS owner. Have a couple owners that get a new one every year, one just took delivery of #4..Best thing, actually the only thing to do,is to sea trial one in the conditions you run it in. That will tell you if it's right for you.
|
You really have to take it for a ride in conditions like those that concern you and decide for yourself. This will also help you avoid not enough power remorse syndrome - oh sorry - there is no such thing as enough power :D .

Have done several 370SS and as Magic said no one has been unhappy, everyone seems to be on point in here. The boat does have a wider beam and will affect the ride but a condo that runs 60+ with 525's cant be beat. Bottom line is run one in rough conditions and see for yourself.

Jupiter, our 370's go everywhere, not just lakes.Several on Gulf coast,CA,NY, and NJ last week. Vareity of water conditions. I use one as a personal demo here on our local lake. Lots of 370's sold on LOTO by Selpel, that lake can get rough. Maybe Selpel will chime in.

Magicfloat, A Newbie Question About Ss37's...can One Man Handle An Ss37? I'm Talkin' About Mooring, Deploying Fenders, Setting Lines, Getting It Into An 11' Slip? I've Only Got My Wife, And Well....you Know.
And I Know, It Would Be Better With Two Men, But I Ain't Got That. Your Opinion. Yea Or Nea. |
Sure, the 370 is just a big runabout. My good friend that buys a new one every year(his 07 is #5) comes up every Sat by himself, never an issue. He comes by my dock, ties up,all by himself,no problems. He has a 12' slip now,but previously had an 11',little tight, but no problems. My personal 370 is in my 12'slip now,Karen takes it out by herself. She is more into boating than the average wife, but the 370 is easy to run.:drink:

Thank You. You Make Me Smile.... Smile In Anticipation That I'm Gonna' Get That 37, Which I've A L W A Y S Wanted All Along. Yessss!

If your boating style is changing and your better half wants a boat for the family, you cannot go wrong with the 370SS. It has all the comforts of home but the speed we drivers can live with! We have sold four since Feb. and I still have two on order for delivery. Here at LOTO we can see water that makes a 353 rough riding at 30 but the 370SS makes the ride GREAT for 10 people at 30 but can turn into the wind and 55 is easy w496 MAG/HO`s
Great compromise !! |
Something to think about - 400ss. I thought the 370ss and 400ss would be the same minus 3 ft. Well jumping back and forth between the 2 at the boat show, the 400ss certainly seemed much bigger, especially in the cabin.
I have no experience , but one would think the extra length would help the offshore ride? Plus if you are looking used it seems there are twice as many 400ss for sale as 370ss. Something to think about. |
Ss37 Opinions
JAYBIRD, THANKS FOR COMPOUNDING MY DILEMMA. LOL. NATURALLY, YOU ARE CORRECT ALTHOUGH, I HADN'T RECOGNIZED IT. THANKS FOR POINTING THIS OUT, i.e., THE VAST NUMBER OF 40'S AVAILABLE COMPARED TO 37'S. NOW, I'M REALLY SCRATCHIN' MY CHIN. WITH THIS SHOPPING, THE SLOWER YOU GO, THE FUNNER IT GETS.
|
I'm going to test a 370 and a 400 on Saturday in LOTO to compare the two myself. The rep said the 400 weights 1.5 tons more and that would make a huge differance in the ride on the ocean I would think. I'm just trying to figure out if I want to slow down 20 mph, I think I would order a 400ss with 525's. I did find a 2001 with 500's though.
Does anybody know what speed one will get with 525's in it? Thanks. Rich. |
Hey Rich,
Cannot wait to take you out on both boat today. Hope we can find some traffic to play with. Wait till you drive the Diesel boat! Was neat to see you and your wife at Frank & Louies last night, the boat ride home was great in the 45 Yacht. See you later today. |
