Need Help Taking Bezels off....Please..

Hey Guys I'm finally starting to do some things around the boat and need to know how to take the stock bezels off the gauges.I have a friend who owns a body shop,so instead of buying new gauge bezels,we are going to sand the stock ones completly smooth and paint the candy red, what do you do guys think? Also what do you like about painting the rear vents, you think Red or White???Here are a couple pics....

I think it could look cool for the dash. I would leave the vents for two reasons. One is they will likely chip being in that area were people board the boat and what not. I also think that since they are surrounded in black that they should stay that way.

Ya know I was thinking that too, since it has that black strip in the rear,it might stick out like a sore thumb,I hope the dash looks good,I just don't have the money right know for new bezels and stuff....I'll let you guys know how it comes out...

I think chormed vents would look good it matches the windshild frame and the bow rail.:drink:

I'm purty sure those bezels are part of the gauge and not removable. You could take the whole thing out, tape the face of the gauges, and then shoot the bezels.

Where's mopower or cuda when you need um...:drink:

I pantied my vents white last year with krylon fusion no problems so far. Im not sure about the white on your 89 but my 86 357 is an off white so they dont quite blend . But Im going to try thr Krylon dover white it looks like it should be a real good mach. If anyone wants to know how it matches up I will post after I pant them again.

let me know, pics if you could

I took that black stripe of the whole back of the boat

I would like chrome vents and the ar intakes too :)

Formula311-SR1 04-30-2007 02:06 PM

The bezels come off, twist one way or the other and they will pop apart. I painted my vents with Krylon white and I think they look very nice. I'll try to get pics this week if it quits raining.

pshannon 04-30-2007 06:15 PM

I got all the bezels off,I'll be putting a DIY up in a little bit with pics....

thanks I think it updates it a bit, just peeled it off with a heat gun and buffed, it was pretty shiny under the sticker

in the pics you see the bottom of the back seat (that you sit on) when I had it redone he made it so it pulls off instead of hinging up toward you, at first I was skeptical but now I like it a lot better, Im all about easy access :)

Killer_TA 05-02-2007 06:38 PM

Yours was a sticker. Hum I think mine is painted with Imron. I will have to look at it closer. But it sure does up date the boat. I painted the outher vent and will get some pics posted for you. You will be able to see the diffrance between the krylon white and the dover white as I painted the rub rail white last year at the same time as the vents. The reguler white is way to bright. I will have to take my cover off to get the pics and a real good look at the color match of the dover white.

Hey Pat I have a Formula 311 Sr1 1987 I am currently redoing my dash bought some Livorsi Monster Gauges and make it custom but you know that you can buy the Regular Round Bezels to fit the original VDO Gauges you have in your boat and I think I would look very good also. THe Bezels are not that expensive either and for sure great quality finish.

pshannon 05-03-2007 04:44 PM

I heard that the round bezels won't fit the bottom gauges correctly because they are to close together...

saulesses 05-04-2007 12:00 AM

Yeah that might be true, actually now that i am putting all my new gauges in I had to modify all the Panel will send you pics next week I think its going to look cool.

Killer_TA 05-04-2007 11:45 PM

Ok got the pics on the computer (stupid HP camera) Sorry it took me so long. Its still hard to tell how well the match is because I did not have dirrect sunlight. But it is better the the rub rail that is painted gloss white.
