Motor Plugs

Dear Friends:

I am fairly new to boating and this Spring I have decided to save myself a couple of dollars by doing the Spring start up myself. I know I need to charge the batteries and connect the hoses and install the plugs. I have not looked around yet but can someone tell me where these plugs go? I'm not sure how many I have but it looks like there are a handful in the bag the dealer left me. Also is there anything else I should do? I plan on changing the drive oil and fuel filter and grease everything. I also need to silicone that leaky windshield. Sorry for the stupid question but Im to cheap to pay someone!!

Thanks in advance.
PS. Its an 86 242ls with a single 454 alpha.

Can you post a pic of the plugs? Could probably better tell you where they go if we know what they look like.

Re

I couldnt take a picture but I did mess around with them last night. There are 8 plugs. 4 of them look like some sort of "T" peacock plug. 2 of them are almost like caps and the other 2 are smaller peacock plugs. I found there are two holes on the bottonm of the exhaust manifold on each side and two more holes on the side of the risers. I assume the 4 t shaped plugs go in the bottom of the exhaust manifolds but im not sure if the peacock plug goes in the riser or the capped plug. I also cant find the other two holes. Please advise.

Thanks again

On the side of the engine block. Low near the center. Should be 1 on each side.

The plugs go in the sides of the risers. The "peacocks" go in bottom of the exhaust minifolds, one front, one back on each manifold. Two more "peacocks" go in the block, one each side.

Now,,,,,,,, so you don't sound silly around all of your boating friends,,,,,,,,,,,,, those "peacocks" are actually "petcocks". A petcock is a term for a small valve. For fear of you getting beat up on a dock full of boat-bullies, don't ever refer to them as peacocks again.:D

Donlt forget to look way up in the forward storage compartment (it's a cuddy, right?) and get rid of any water that collected there from the windshield and winter.

Check the bilge, water/fuel seperator and pull/replace the spark plugs if they're not new. Check belts, fill 'er full of adult beverages and splash 'er!
