Deck hatch came apart...
 

I just picked up a 2001 382 and was out testing and had the front deck hatch pop open. I found that the black plastic latch mechanism simply popped off of the white acrylic lens. It appeared to glued to the lens. I contacted Formula who sent me to Bomar who told me that I must buy another complete lens/latch assembly because the latch is sonically welded to the lens. I hate to do this since my hatch has some of the Formula painted graphics on it. Has anyone successfully re-glued the latch to the lens? I need to find a glue that can adhere to the acrylic lens....

Sonically welded???? Never heard of that before.

There's gotta be a glue for that application. Go to the 3M website. They list more stuff than you can imagine.

Did you ever get this fixed? My kids left one unlocked and the mount is still attached to the hatch but the plastic piece that holds the ram broke off.

I fixed mine with some special glue that is made for acrylic to ABS plastic which is the black plastic material. Holding well so far. Sounds like only the black plastic material broke for you, correct? You should be able to get some new parts from Pompanette. Let me know if I misunderstood.

Exactly...the black plastic piece that is attached to the bottom of the hatch broke, but it's still attached. I'll have to figure out how to remove it if I can get the piece to replace it.....I'll be calling them later today.

Assuming I can get the part, I'll be bothering you for the name of the "glue" you used so I can put this back together.

I get it now. Don't know how to get that thing off but once you do, try this glue from a local glue dealer: http://www.rplastics.com/weldon16.html

I ended up speaking with the chemist at the manufacturer Weld-On about my application (acrylic to glass filled ABS) and he said he had a couple glues that are designed for that but this #16 was the easiest to use and should provide much more holding power that I would need. The other glues he had were 2 part epoxys requiring expensive applicators to get the ratios exactly right and are overkill. Not to mention that if you get the ratio a little wrong it could be weaker than the one part glues. Mine seems to be working well so far and it sure seems alot stronger than the "sonic weld" that the manufacturer used....

Thanks for the info on the glue.....with your drive, your a little far, but I went in with about 7 guys and bought all the tools to work on Bravos. 2 of my buddies have gotten very good at working on them (I can't). We pulled 15 of them apart for inspection/service over the winter and have done another 5-10 since boating weather started.
and BTW: I've just bought a spare XR that will be shipped to me next week. I'll have a spare regular bravo to sell once it's here :D Another one of my buddies has a low water pickup 1.5 bravo that was serviced this winter and is ready to run. $1,500 and it's yours.
