how do you remove waterline after each outing
how do you remove the waterline after each outing
our local lake which accesses lake michigan is lake Macatawa ( we call it lake macatoilet) anyway. i get a greasy waterline every outing. I wipe it down immediatlye when i pull the boat out , and i wash the boat each outing but the waterline is staying. I don't want to etch it with bowl cleaner or anything becasue the boat has a great finish. I was finnessing the bow this weekend and trie a little of that on a small spot. worked ok, but some line left. i want to get it perfectly clean first and then wax again, ( and double wax on the waterline) same issue with the transom so what works Ramb |
Ram...........I use Weslely's bleach white works good on my boat does not seem to hurt anything.

ON/OFF on the hull (waterline) and then 2 coats of wax. The crap will wipe off for 2-3 months beofre you'll need to re-do the procedure.
ON/OFF will take EVERYTHING off!!! (I usually cut it to less than 50% strength because of this) |
thanks Jeremy
I'll try that I have some for my truck tires. i jsut don'y want to have to buff, polish, and wax everytime your avatar still says 272 ???? :D |
I have a box with clean towels and 3-4 spray bottles with either simple green or a general boat wash mixed up.....when i'm done boating and as soon as the boats pulled out of the water i hand everyone thats onboard with me a bottle and a towel and put them to work! :D And i usually once a month or so wax the boat to keep it shiney and help in the wipe down

Find a product called Slimy Grimy. It comes in a little tub about the size of Cool-Whip, in a granular form. Mix it up in a spray bottle, either like a hand held spray bottle, or small lawn sprayer.
http://www.slimygrimy.com/ West Marine sells it, Boater's World might, and your local marina may carry it as well. It works WONDERS. |

You guys have access to Roll Off? Not sure how it differes from On/Off, but I get a greasy scum line every time I pull out at one particular ramp. I just wet down the hull, spray a little of this stuff and wipe it with a brush. Comes right off.
What I'm not 100% sure about is whether this stuff takes all the wax/polish right off with it... |
Hi Ram I too use lake Maca as point of depart/return I agree on/off, couple coats wax, then wipe off lake mac at the launch while its still wet. think I saw you heading out sunday afternoon as we were heading in 2 311s and a336
Enjoy |
Randy
I think I saw you guys come in. was the 336 pulled by a silver Ram? I looked at that boat, and couldn't convince the wife at the time? and one of your 311's had some serious power !!!! sounded awesome out the thru hulls. was that you guys? I was wiping the above mentioned lake grim off my boat when you guys pulled to the dock. Ramb |

I have a couple of spay bottles filled with pure vinegar. One for each side of the boat. Spray it down and everything wipes right off. Cheap too. A gallon is about $3.00 . I use Fantastic at the rear for the transom to get off the greasey exhaust film.( running a little rich)
Vinegar will also clean up your exhaust tips to get the lime off. Might take a couple of spayings but it will come off. |
Yes Ram that was us, 336 and powered 311 go in at DNR I use Dutton. The 311 does have some serious power fresh this year. We are quite often 2-3 miles out of holland sitting when water warm enough to swim and like to go to the cove in Saug or Port sheldon usually out every sat and sunday stop in next time you see us. thanks for all the advice
I may try the slimy grimy, or maybe vinegar but i read in powerboat in a detailing article that vinegar also takes all the wax off..... I have the gel type snowbowl stuff. works awesome. you can watch the hull turn white right before your eyes. but on my previous boat. I had to buff, polish, and wax every time after i did that. there was no finish/shine left after the snowbowl. has anyone tried the washing waxes, or spray on waxes? the petroleum products in wax seems to cut the grease, and maybe a continual quick waxing will keep it easier to wipe down, and also never lets the wax get stripped off ??? or what about oxiclean ??:D Randy Every sunday you can find us at Laketown with the kids ,playing on the beach. I would like to try port sheldon sometime I would like to invite you three to our 7th annual poker run. we have a local boat club and i organize the poker run. jsut a fun run with many runabout. usually about 30-40 boats ending at coral gables for dinner a prizes. send me your email, so I can get you guys the info i'm at: robert.hamelink "at" jci.com ( no spaces) I have another 311 buddy who will be at the poker run it woudl be cool to have 5 formulas in the lineup It's a fun, cheap, midweek run raising money for a good local cause. ON/OFF... works wonders. Can find it in any local marine store too.
