336 SR ... Opinions on this boat???
I'm looking for a high performance boat in the 32-34 foot range and have run across some 336 SR's. There doesnt seem to be too many of them for sale...Anyone know anything about them?????

Spend a few minutes in a 336 and you will want one. Kind of like a 311 with a molded platform. Sweet boats.
|
Been in 1 ...real nice boat....kind of rare. I was told that they were built during poor sales years, not alot built, therefore not alot of used ones around.

If you are looking for a high performance 32-34 footer don't forget 311's as they are really 33'6" with the platform - probably where Formula came up with the 336 # from. |

Great Boat. Very well built. A wave crusher.
I had a 1994 with factory HP 525SCīs. That was good for 80+ mph on fresh water. |
griz,
still have my left nut for now, thanks anyway :ernaehrung004: jon |
Centerfield,
I have a 336 for sale near me. It is either a 92 or 95. It is being sold by a local dealer for a friend who he said is selling it because of upcoming medical expenses. Anyway, he told me, and I quote, "I will sell it for 39,900. Not a cent less. It is a 65,000 boat any day of the week." I will say that the boat looked to be in excellent condition. If you are interested let me know and I'll look at it again and take some pictures for you. The boat is in Portland, CT. Tanndex |
Thanks for all the info......I would be interested in some info if you dont mind....I've found one that is interesting in Maryland....CT is not that much farther for the right one.

centerfield,
I know of a 91' 292 w/502's, new drives that will be going to market in the next couple weeks. The older SR-1's are actually a little larger. It sits on a triple axle trailer. PM if interested. |
centerfield,, that boat in maryland, grasonville? if its a 95 ask in for the survey,,read closely ,, also note NO fresh water flush kits .......so how did they flush it,, that 92 in CT I think that boat has 454's and was called assasin just sold within the past yr and appears to be for sale again,,,,just things I found in my search.......gave up eveyone wanted too much for the condition,,, bought a 34 Vyper instead,,,, OK so its not a formula but its got a more user friendly cabin and headroom,, more room at the helm (behind the steering wheel}..... love mine twin hp500's 78mph gonna try some labbed 28's next yr like to see 80. Don't get me wrong the 336 is a really nice boat
|
centerfield,
I will check out the boat in Portland toward the end of next week and take some pictures. I will attempt to verify the info from the last post. Tanndex |
The one in maryland is a 96 and is near annapolis. Manifolds and risers were done in '02. ...... and Mark, Helen knows now! The Goose told her last night!
|
just to clarrify
the 336 is not a 311 similar in length, but the 336 has much more freeboard, therefore a deeper cabin. the windshield is much more forward that the 311, and the sunpad is much larger not knocking the 311 at all , one of the best formulas prolly ever built, but the 336 is quite different in my opinion. both great boats i looked hard for 3 years to replace my 272 and just recently bought a 336 not many for sale because the owners like them so much maybe :D in 95, formula added a notch in the transom to improve performance, and 96 was the last year, replaced by the 353 ( not much longer) and with less freeboard, but added stepped hull my boat rides very level and crushes waves with the tabs down. what props, gear ratio, and rpm were you at mine has 525sc's also I am at 73 mph at 5000 rpm, 1.36 ratio with 5 people and sticky water. ramb |
H2X
Also, I was told mine (1995) was the first one that formula installed the 525sc's in. It has boost gages in the engine bay, they said they used them for the shakedown run with my boat, which was used for their brochure, and also a trail in Powerboat mag. the follwing 525sc boats did not have boost gages installed ( bay or cockpit) just curious about yours being a 94  Ramb |
Rambunctious, what props are you running and which ones have you tried. have you tried hydromotives at all?
|
Ron
they are bravos 24's, lab finished by mercury. I jsut had them scanned and the cups were dialed in some FYI , your boat was another one I was going to look at if this one hadn't panned out. 336 with bulldogs, right? do you have 1.5 or 1.36 ratio? I may take some cup out and get teh r's clsoer to 5200 and see if ther is more top end..... I want to have one cool air run first before i do anything else this last run was literally 90+ degrees with 5 on board and pretty smooth water. before spending a ton on new props I might consider imco shorties. the local formula expert says they really make the 336 scoot i would like to try various props for free or a small fee though Ramb |
The review in powerboat mag raved about the 336 with blowers. Said it was one of the best balanced boats they tested or something to that effect.
|
does anyone know how to get these back issues. I would love to have the issue on my boat.
or does anyone have a powerboat mag collection dating back that far... Ramb |

We have a pretty similar set up. |
RonS you have pm ( coming from waterfoul account)
thks audiofn. I have the downloaded brochure. it's neat to see my boat in the brochure. Ramb |
Centerfield,
32velocity is correct on some facts. The boat is a 1994 336 with 502's and is called ASSASIN. It is having a survey done on Tuesday, 09/25 by a potential buyer, the dealer said it looks like it is gone. I took some outside pictures and will try to attach them. The dealer is sticking to his selling because of medical issues story and claims to not know any more regarding the history. If still interested, I will check back with him next week. Chris |
