Hey everyone, my name is Chris im from Kenosha Wi, I will be in the market for a new used boat this winter or next spring. I finally got my wife talked into a 95 to 97 272 or open bow. She is pushing for the open bow im pushing for the cuddy. Im just wondering how the 272 would be for putting the kids on the tube. Some people have told me that it will kill me on gas because of having the tabs all the way down, to try to get it to plane at a lower speed. Any advice would be helpful.

you will not be dissapointed with any formula you purchase

272 was 80's era twin engine boat
maybe you mean 90's era 271 ? ( singe engine)

292 is 2000's era with twin engines ( similar to 80's 272 size)

I would think a 271 will pull tubes easy enough. having tabs on teh boat is better than none
you need to be realistic with how often you pull tubes, or just go cruising though.:drink:

formula has a few open bows or sun sport models ( wrap around seating in cockpit ) to give more room. maybe the sunsport with wrap around seating is your compromise with your wife on room, ( plus you get the cutty)
remind her that most open bows do not have a portapotty

Welcome to the board! We are just down the road from you and might be able to help.

We have a 2006 Formula 260BR with a 496MAG and Bravo III. The boat is easy to trailer and the kids (10, 12 and 12) love to tube behind the boat. It is fine on Lake Michigan (when weather permits) but is a great day boat. The cockpit is very flexible, and offers A LOT more space than a 272. The 272 is a great boat that runs a lot faster, but does not offer much entertaining space. SInce you have kids, you might want to take a look at the 260 (comes in a bow rider or cuddy).

We trailer to the Chain, Madison, Door County, Lake Geneva... and have a great time with the family.

Our first boat was a 272 Baja and we liked the boat. We did some tubing and knee boarding, but again, the cockpit is not suited for more that 6 people. With our bow rider, we have had 12 on board.

Not so fast there, Rambo. The new Formula 240BR does have an enclosed head under the port windshield/dash area. Nice boat and lots of room for it's size. i may be looking into one of these myself for boating in Nevada.

I pull my kids behind my boat, with tabs down (probably all the way, I don't have indicators) and stay on plane at 25-30mph without any problem. We are 5 people total, 3 adults/teen and 2 under 12 yrs. I almost bought a 2001 260 SS, but when I found mine, I made it work, and don't regret it at all.

I have a 242LS and tubing is fine with a little tab, but we are a family of four. Any more than six I would need a bottle of advil:drink: Most of my friends have gone to bowriders, and when the wife gets on thier boat I get and hearfull. The only thing I can say is it`s payed for. I wouldn`t mind a 260 BR.

I pulled kids on a tube in my 302, but they all drowned. :(

Can you imagine tubing behind a set of those Kaama's? I'd be willing to try it once. :D
