had a nice run satuday and sunday. Did some testing sat. whith the trim running where it is suppose to be. I still have a problem where the trim pumps on the port side work when they want to:rolleyes: anyway it ran 62.8 @5600 almost 5800 in the CRUISE mode. It looks like i need some BIG wheels to get the rpm back down to around 5000. The worst part is i cannot get the dayum things to heat up. Check the oil sat after the run and the oil is milky. Temps never got over 100 degrees changed it for sunday and have not checked it yet. i am going to put thermostats in as how i have not been running any and i have crossovers.

BTW nice to see RAMBUNCTIOUS came up from Holland just to see me:p:D

Great to finally meet you and your family CarBiz.

would have been nice to see those roosts on Sunday but with 5' swells about 10' apart it was pretty rough. I know we had some high launches a few times

Maybe Josh has some props left over to try

Hey CarBiz,
How did things turn out at the end of the season? I bought my 311 with Kaamas 3 seasons ago expecting the worst with the replaced engines but I'm pleasantly satisfied. Some exhaust issues which still remain and, as always, someone dicked up the rigging and upholstery along the way. Otherwise, it runs very strong. I'm curious as to what you found with gear ratio and prop setup. I had spoken with Brian Goetchius before he put the boat up for sale. I wasn't aware he had replaced the original motors. Same problem with mine. Engine builder told my original owner that BOTH engines were shot and he needed new ones. (Engine builder saw the bowtie on the side of the block) Now engine builder has two bowtie engines from Innovation Marine. He did put a very nice pair of Gen 5 engines in though. I kept the Gen iv motors from my F402 just in case. As Ramb commented above, you can change the effective prop pitch with a drive gear change. The gears are standard V-drive parts from Casale.

ALJ - Well the engine drama is still haunting me a little. The port motor has always had a water issue in the oil since it was put in. I had the intake gasket changed the first weekend in Oct and ran it one time and the water is still there....... Both motors run flawless and i can spin them 5000. With the 24's they will spin 5600:eek:............ I am in the process of pulling them both back out and i am going to take them back to Felice to see what is wrong. The best i have seen out of it is 67.9 @ 4800 still not trimmed all the way. The props are 17x 29 4 blades I borrowed from BOATMAN302. All in all it has been both frustrating and exciting:cool:

*** UPDATE***

ok............what frustration this thing has been from day one...........The port motor is pumping water out number 6 right out the exhaust port. the head gasket was not blown it seems the valve guide is leaking.

The starboard motor has a blown head gasket and one pison that is toast. the block is going to have to rehoned and a new piston.

The motors show alot of detonation it seems too much compression for 89 octane. I am going to have them completely redone AGAIN and hopefully..........hopefully have a good boating seaon for my family and my sake. i will report when i get more information!!!

Just go over them completely, I had issues last season trying to cut stuff that should not have been an issue, I did everything the last time and have had no issues.... hope all goes well, I spen last summer pulling engines 3 times, I know how this feels...

MillershighLife 05-06-2009 06:20 PM

i feel your pain . My first weekend out in my 242ls I managed to hurt the engine . was running strong untill it destroyed an exhaust valve in number 6 , number three was right behind it , it was tuliped pretty bad .I had just baught the boat and only really ran it on the trailer since there was still snow on the ground . building her up with a small nitrous/blower cam , inconel valves and new je pistons to hopefully work better with the procharger the boats had on it since 1998 . Im not sure what Id do if i hurt it first time out . probably pull a Lutenate Dan and jump over board and start doing the back stroke !!
