What Are The Real Lenght Of Our Boat?

My Formula is a F 35-7 model. old model, 1989. I measured it and it really is a 35 footer and 7 inches, from nose to transom. THEN, I add the swim platform and end up to a total of 37.7, let's say more likely a 38 footer than a 35.

is this true measurement changed when the boats were made later? for example, is a 353 formula a real 353, plus swimplatform, wich would be around 37-38 again? What I was told is if I want to compare my old formula 35-7, I'd have to look at a 382 to have the model that is closer to mine in lenght.

I hope my question is clear: what is total lenght of a 382?

You would be looking at the 382's to have more room then you currently have

so then it is a real 38 plus s-platform wich gives roughly what? 40 ? a 382 would be overall 40?

Um, no. Like you measured, a "357 SR-1" is 35'7" from bow to transom. Then add the platform and you get 37'7".

The Fastechs are measured to include the platform. So a 382 is 38"2" from bow to the rear end of the platform.

Hopefully Formula doesn't mind that I post some old data...

Its really pretty simples. If the platform is bolted on (older formula, cigarette, baja outlaw, etc) then the length is from the transom to the nose and does not include the swim platform. If the platform is molded in (Formula fastech, fountain, sunsation, powerquest, etc) then it is included in the overall length. Your 357 is approximately the same size as a 382 and is about 2 feet longer than a 353.

You will also hear people refer to their boat as a 'true 38', which means it is 38' from bow to transom and has either no swim platform or a bolt on platform.

How jmeng explained it is correct!

I never heard of the 419? I have a 402sr1 and it is a true 40.

Only made it for a few years I think. Started in '91.

My 382 has a RUNNING surface no more than 1 ft longer than your 357. Between 90-92 almost every manufacturer started measuring boats differently and the platforms became part of the measured length. Cigarette is a true 38 footer since the platforms are bolted on, Formula fastech's are not. (I think the Cigarette is actually 37 ft. XX inches but close enough)

Years ago I had a 1991 Searay 310 Sundancer, in 1992 they no longer made the 310 and instead came out with the 330 Sundancer.....the EXACT same boat down to the colors of the interior!!! Just measured it differently.
