SR1 cockpit volume control

It didn't work when I got the boat, now I've torn the knob off. Anybody care to share some ideas as to what to do with it? It's tucked down next to the bolster, a pain to get to. Not sure if it would make a decent location for future stereo control or not.
I'm a stereo noob and mine is all original...I'm still waiting for someone to help me diagnose why my cabin speakers don't work (if they're even in there). :(

We removed the one in our 96 382 sr-1 and replaced it with a Clarion watertight marine control. It works good with easy access.

Its easy to pull the cabin bulkhead piece where the speakers are. Pull the front v-berth cushion, then pull on the bottom of the little bulkhead, it will come right out. There's a stud in the top of the bulkhead that engages a hole in the underside of the deck. It just kind of wedges back into place. Then you'll have access to the speakers (and the docking lights). May be just unplugged but, whatever the problem, they're easy to replace.

re: stereo remote

Hey Michael,

I put two Clarion water proof remotes on my 311 this past spring the first was on the side of where the shifter colunm is facing the cockpit there is just enough room to put it there and it is out of the way but easy to use. the second was on the stern port above the rub rail on the flat "band" that wraps around the the stern of your boat .... this for when you are in the water you can control everything as well or if you want to have a party in your drive way without getting in your boat.
I also replaced my speakers in the bow they were easy to do ... mine were blown.
If you look back around September/October on this forum there were a couple of us shring some ideas for placement of speakers and amps .....
good luck ........

Jeff

I eliminated mine, took it apart and covered the panel with vinyl. A full remote works a lot better.

How do you remove that it has alot of wires? I would like a full function remote in that spot.

Let me know if you want mine. The splines look good. I'll post up a couple pics.

Thanks Third for the instructions!

Jeff (twins), thanks for the confirm that those remotes will fit there. I was on that thread back then...got myself a place to start now!
