Dieselpowered 382
Just want to share with you guys have this works.
Living in Norway this is the only way to afford using a boat like this without beeing a billionaire.Gas is to expensive. I bought a -98 382 without engines, so i put in the new 320 hp cumminsmercruiser commonrailengines. I put on a DTE dieselchip that added about 60 hp on each motor and a lot of torque.. The engines have a top rpm of 3800. I put on bravo1 propellers, tried 26,28,30,32 pitch but they did not work well on the boat. Then i tried maximus 28, but hit the govenor.Great propeller by the way! Then maximus 30, still hitting the govenor, and doing 64 mph at 3800 rpm. Now i have ordered maximus 32 labfinished, hoping for more speed...... I am also going to try spinning the propellers in. The boat is on land just now, the results will come in may... |
Thank you for posting the info and please post the final results. I would assume those diesels put out alot of torque so be careful on those drives.....the larger props also suggest alot of TQ.

got any picttures of this setup? :worthless_without_p

Gorm, welcome to the madness, good luck with your project. Keep us posted, the way gas is going here, some of us may have to go to diesels as well.
|
you need to reduce your drive ratio to 1to1 that means you need different drives to hold up to T.Q. I went to anesons for my 750ftlb of torq. you can swing a bigger blade that way. jenks.

Interesting project.
Do you have any idea what kind of fuel economy (mpg or km/l) you are getting on average or cruise or WOT ? |
In Norway we usually measure in liter per hour.
The average use was a total of 35 l/h, after 70 hours of use.I am usually cruising at 60 mph, or going slow around the docks. ps, 1 gallon is about 3,8 liters i think. |

I took this pic at the Miami boat show, it must mean gas is not the only way to go. These engines were in the boat next to it I believe it was a 38 with the new nxt drive I think.
