Question for Fastech owners

As many of you know, Premier Performance Marine is the new Formula certified service center in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In addition to providing warranty and retail service on Formula boats, I am trying to develop a "Premier" upgrade package for Fastech owners. What would you like to see in terms of performance and bling upgrades.

Thanks,

Frank Areces
President

A couple of Playboy model types to come with each boat for maintinence,,,,,,that would pretty much be all the bling I'd need.

J.B. Marshall 03-13-2008 07:42 PM

Throw in a fuel card with no limit and I will bring mine in for service. :D

thedonz 03-15-2008 02:08 PM

hmmm.....I'll see what I can do.............

ThirdBird 03-15-2008 02:51 PM

You really didn't expect to get that shameless plug in without a few wisecracks, did you?:D

I don't own a newer Fastech but, I think most owners like to bling things themselves. Just my .02.

5PMSMWHR 03-15-2008 02:59 PM

Miami / Ft. Lauderdale, what's the hourly rate to Blingize?

kjm5125 03-15-2008 06:12 PM

I would take a look at the engine compartment. You can add alot of bling in there. (Billet battery boxes and drive lubricant reservoirs, stainless sea strainers, ect.)

LOL, I knew that would be coming....but I am really interested in developing a Fastech package similar to what Lip-Ship does for Cigarette. Formula Fastechs have a lot of unleashed potential. I just figured I'd come up with a package re performance and bling upgrades and want to know it there is a market for this. And, if so, what do the owners want to see in an upgrade package to distinguish themselves at the dock........

PhantomChaos 03-17-2008 11:05 AM

Custom dock lines for the owner......and/or fender covers.

J.B. Marshall 03-17-2008 11:07 AM

Frank,

On the serious side, KJM is on target with his thoughts.

Sea strainers should be a standard, billet battery boxes & drive reservoirs, speaker grills, cup holders and I wish they could find a way to mount billet fender holders in the engine room.
My $.02

Formula Upgrade like a Lip Ship

Do what i did to mine a few years back. Built a custom Fairing Painted to match Torch graphics, White Powder Coat all the SS Rails, and Grab Handles. Really looked nice and didn't look so much like a Cruiser. Maybe simplify the Cabin area and drop some weight. I have now owned a Outerlimits 37' and now a 36 Skater and my Formula was just as nice a boat just not as fast but what a great all around boat (2001 38 w/ 575 Sc's). I would guess that someday I will own one again and it will have to be different than all the rest.

thedonz 03-18-2008 02:24 PM

now we're talkin'.........good ideas.........

kjm5125 03-18-2008 03:34 PM

Another thought...How about replacing the rear bench seat with three man bolsters. Also, I would think that Formula could offer this as an option.

LV 03-18-2008 07:12 PM

I have always thought that they should make an intergraded ladder in the cabin door, make it a little easier to get on the bow, and simplify the cabin a little like bripar77 stated, shed some pounds, throw in a nice floor in the cockpit like some of the cigs, and def. incorporate a new windscreen, I know that they have made some in the past, but I think there is still some work to do to them to make them look right.last but not leased, ditch the bow rails.

5PMSMWHR 03-18-2008 07:16 PM

In the bling category, led lighting, cockpit and engine compartment.

I like how the 2008 Formulas have the silver dash, but I think they should have carried over to the sliding door as well. Integrated steps like GrandTimes said would be great.

Rippem 03-19-2008 01:10 PM

the integrated steps in the door would be worthless without a SUBSTANTIAL center w/s support...
and a first mate with a 30" stride.
as far as the w/s is laid back, and as little dash as there is behind the top frame looking down, it's not an ideal step over situation.

aluminum or fiberglass fairing 1st on my list...

One-off graphics, interior trim and colors, trick (led) cockpit / engine lighting, and race-style rigging. If I'm going through the trouble to do it myself, it must be what I want...

Maritime_Eng 03-19-2008 02:04 PM

When I had my 382 I wanted to remove the grab rails front deck and rear, Custom Fairing, 3 man rear bolster, custom sun deck with hatch scoops and all the billet accesories like a Cig or Outlerlimits.

Hope this helps.

cuposterchild 03-19-2008 02:41 PM

Depends how far you want to go...visually I agree with eveyrthing that has been suggested. Fairing, custom paint, custom painted/billet accessories/drives/tabs. Also look into custom power and possibly a more stripped down cabin to lighten things up for better performance(would have to research how center of gravity and such would be effected). Maybe work with formula R&D to create a cross between their race boats and full blown production boats--different lighter race hull layups in a pleasure layout with or without cabin. Just a few off the wall ideas for ya

LV 03-19-2008 06:41 PM

nice paint C spray, looks damn good!

Dude, go buy a Fountain if you want a fairing. Windshields are cool and functional. It ain't always 90 degrees around here, I'll keep my windshield, thank you!!

Plus, all you trendy, gnarly boys that don't want a bow rail, try pulling into a wind swept dock and hanging onto your ultra-polished, no-rail deck while your boat lifts away or crunches glass on the dock.

Stupid, just stupid!! OK, I'm old. But, it's a boat, it needs certain accoutrenents that yield themselves to satisfactory boating. These items have been refined over hundreds of years of marine experience. Think about it: "Oh, but it looks so cool with a smooth deck". Well again, I'm old, you'll learn the hard way that you NEED a bow rail. If you have suction cup palms, then maybe, just maybe you don't need a rail.

I'm done now.

Now hold on there, I have a windshield on the new Fountain. And I want to tell you it does a he11 of a job at 90+. Hardly messed the doo on the test drive last fall. Got bow rails, an anchor locker, and a vacuflush chitter as well. Dosen't seem to slow it down much.

Old farts rule Bird, Old farts rule!!! :D

This went from bling boat suggestions to re-designing the whole boat. Formula is a class boat company and the Fastech model is for the luxary go fast crowd (gentlemans hi-performance boat)

If you want an all out race boat and all these other changes that you may prefer as so many of you have suggested then I suggest you look at other builders that have those qualities.

I also agree on the rails and I like the comforts of the cabin in the Fastech models.

Blin is bling not a re-design of the blue prints.... again my $02 :cool-smiley-011:

I hear what you are saying, people buy certain boats for certain reasons. But he didn't say he was looking to do just bling and appearance upgrades. He was looking to do performance updates as well. Also being a shop like Lipship is about more than offering custom options and appearance upgrades. It is about getting the absolute most performance out of a hull and giving the customer exactly what they they want. I am just not sure how you would get another 10 mph out of a Formula with all the amenities and ride quality and HP being the same as a stock boat without stripping some serious weight whether it be in the hull or cabin, deck, etc. Heck I would really like to see a 271 with a 525 be able to run 75+mph all day on GPS w/o safrificing anything but that is just me. I was just throwing out suggestions from the other end of the spectrum...didn't mean to ruffle feathers :D

first of all, at 6'6" the w/s only serves to put ALL the air right on my face/head...thus the windaways... because it's annoying having all the flow directed right at my head and buffeting my ears.

I can get out of it sitting down with the deflectors on, but that's it.

second of all, have you ever seen what happens to those aboard when a glass w/s shatters? I have and it ain't pretty...

anyone who wants/enjoys a glass w/s on a performance boat is welcome to that opinion

but I have my asthetic, functional, and safety reasons why you should have a choice.

that is true and I thought that when I typed that post.

steps and an easy to get over smaller fairing would be a good combo. In fact I think if you look around that combo is available and works on some other high end perf boats.

Yep, here's an example. Probably a bit more fabrication involved than a typical dealer upgrade... more of a 'factory' upgrade... They still should make the existing door silver to match the dash.:drink:

LV 03-20-2008 02:08 PM

its been what, 11 years since formula changed there design, they might re-think a few things besides a quart of silver dash paint and a steering wheel, just my opinion of course. Its a great boat but I would like to see them change up a few things mentioned and a few others , and have some more aftermarket items. Im a family man and love the compfort, but also like to push the sticks down when I want too.

sotapop20 05-17-2008 11:39 PM

How 'bout some engine mods. EMI Thunder kits, Stainless Marine kits, etc. Drive showers and longer Bennet tabs to get the 292 to plane better.

Lots of California companies out there that offer many enhanced products for the 292. To have a performance package would be cost effective and well....awesome!
